Volunteers Needed to Count Homeless Later This Month

The Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness (TPCH) is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to conduct an annual count of people experiencing homelessness in our community. TPCH is a coalition of community and faith-based organizations, government entities, businesses, and individuals committed to the mission of ending homelessness and addressing the issues related to homelessness in our community.

Jack Hanna to Bring Animals to Live Event This Week

Through his two TV shows and late-night TV talk show appearances, Jack Hanna is a familiar name among wildlife lovers and the zoo community. The Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo is coming to Tucson this Thursday for "Jack Hanna's Into the Wild Live," presented in partnership with Reid Park Zoo. Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. show at the Fox Theatre are available online.

Resurfacing Projects Postponed

Current weather conditions and the forecast of inclement weather throughout the week has postponed repaving work on Campbell Avenue from Fort Lowell Road to Glenn Street and on 22nd Street from Tucson Boulevard to Alvernon Way.

Senior Olympic Festival Registration Deadline Approaching

Tucson Parks and Recreation presents the 32nd annual Senior Olympic Festival, Jan. 9-31, at several venues throughout Tucson. The festival is a celebration to promote fitness, health, and an active lifestyle among adults 50 years of age and older.

Some of the events include volleyball, bowling, bridge, racquetball, basketball shoot, pickleball, archery, golf, tennis, horseshoes, badminton, and more.

There's Still Time to TreeCycle

If you're still looking for a way to dispose of your real Christmas tree, you can bring it (minus the decorations) to one of nine TreeCycle sites throughout the community. The annual program runs through Jan. 12 at sites in Tucson and Oro Valley.

As of today, the City of Tucson is offering Merry Mulch (wood chips) from shredded Christmas trees at Udall Park, Randolph Golf Course, and the Los Reales Landfill. Bring your own container and take home some free wood chips for your garden.

As you get rid of your cut Christmas tree, it's a good time to think about planting a tree in your yard. If you order this month or next, you will get free delivery to your home, and the cost for three trees is $15 (limit three trees).

Trees for Tucson is an urban forestry program of Tucson Clean & Beautiful, Inc., and the Home Shade Tree program is sponsored by Tucson Electric Power.

Ward 5 Year In Review

Dear Friends:

I hope that everyone had a happy and safe New Year’s Eve celebration.

I want to express my thanks and appreciation for the opportunity to serve as your Councilmember for Tucson’s Ward 5.

It has been a pleasure serving with and working with my colleagues on the Council, as well as the neighborhoods, businesses in the Ward and in the City of Tucson.

This year, I had the privilege of serving as your Vice Mayor.  I was selected by my colleagues to serve in this post, helping the Mayor, when necessary, and representing our great City.

City of Tucson Holiday Closures

All City offices, except for emergency services, will be closed on the next two Fridays to celebrate Christmas and New Year's Day.

Due to the holidays, residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on those Fridays. All City of Tucson residents and businesses with regular Friday collections will have their trash and recycling service on Saturdays during the holiday weeks. The Los Reales Landfill will be closed on both holidays.
