Living Streets Alliance is again partnering with the City of Tucson Bicycle & Pedestrian Program and the Pima Association of Governments to give away bike lights to people without them. Not only do bike lights improve visibility for both cyclists and others on the street – it's the law that bicyclists have them.

On Friday, February 12, 2016, Main Avenue downtown from Paseo Redondo to Washington Street will be closed to motorists for the dedication of the new Christopher Franklin Carroll Centennial Park.
The road closure will be in place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The dedication ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m.

Tucson City Manager Michael Ortega says 110 employees took advantage of a retirement incentive and left the City last week. In a video message to employees, Ortega says 52 of the retirements were in General Fund departments, saving an estimated $4.5 million in future fiscal years. He also discusses changes in his office.

Those who want to participate in Arizona's March 22 Presidential Preference Election must be registered to vote by midnight on Feb. 22. Voters must register with the same political party affiliation as the presidential candidate for whom they wish to vote. The political parties participating in the election are the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and the Green Party. Arizona’s Open Primary law does not apply to the Presidential Preference Election, but those registered as Independent or Party Not Designated can vote if they re-register with one of the three parties.

Work began this morning on sidewalk improvements along 22nd Street between Wilmot Road and Kolb Road. Crews will work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. The work is scheduled to be finished by the middle of next month.

The City of Tucson has an interactive map to track the progress of the Road Recovery bond project. The five-year plan voters approved in 2012 spends $100 million to improve roadways in our community.
You can click an area of the city on the map and find out which projects are completed, planned, and active. Information also includes the number of miles in each project, and the ability to turn map layers on and off to narrow your search.

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation, Parks and Recreation, El Presidio Neighborhood Association, and Centennial Park Committee will join Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Ward 1 Council Member Regina Romero, Tucson Water, and community members Friday at 3:30 p.m. to dedicate Centennial Park in honor of Christopher Franklin Carroll. The downtown preservationist, developer, and fourth-generation resident of El Presidio died in 2013.

On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin sidewalk improvements along 22nd Street between Wilmot Road and Kolb Road. Crews will work Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The work is scheduled to be complete in mid-March 2016.
Crews are improving curb access ramps to meet American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. During the work, there will be curb lane travel restrictions in place.

A development under construction at Broadway Boulevard, east of Craycroft Road, has all of its tenants lined up. On the site of a former, now-demolished church, will be three eateries...El Pollo Loco, Blaze Fast Fire’d Pizza and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
The church site was bought for $2.2 million by Broadway Festival LLC, headed by Bill Viner and Steve Shenitzer. The land was rezoned for retail use.

Keepers at Reid Park Zoo will provide its residents with valentine-themed treats, and visitors will have the opportunity to make valentines for a furry, feathery, or scaly animal friend. All activities are free with regular admission, and no registration is required.
Presented by Arizona Oncology, Sunday's "I Love Zoo!" event runs from 1-3 p.m.

The annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show® - the one that started it all - opens Thursday at the Tucson Convention Center (TCC).
