Auto Dealers Sign Pre-Annexation Agreement

Several high-end auto dealerships along Wetmore Road, just outside of the Tucson Auto Mall, have signed an agreement to move into the City of Tucson and pay the 2 percent City sales tax. As part of the agreement, which still requires Mayor and City Council approval, the dealers would be reimbursed a portion of the sales tax for 10 years to help them pay for training, college tuition, and workforce development.

Open Houses Scheduled for Tucson Parks and Recreation Five-Year Master Plan

The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department will hold a series of community-wide open houses to gather public input on how it can best deliver recreation and leisure opportunities. The draft five-year master plan anticipates future needs and outlines the actions necessary to deliver high-quality recreation facilities, programs, and services to the Tucson area.

Interactive Maps Provide Valuable Information About Tucson

ZoomTucson is an interactive mapping site that allows citizens to find government information and services, such as political representatives, trash and recycling collection schedules, zoning, and school boundaries. ZoomTucson's clean and simple map interface allows users to search by an address or click on a location to display a wealth of information. It's also good for people interested in moving to Tucson.

Labor Day Collections

The City of Tucson will observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, 2015. Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday. All City of Tucson residential and commercial customers will have their trash and recycling service delayed by one day. The Los Reales Landfill will be closed Monday, September 7th.

Sun Tran Adds Two More Routes During Strike

With more resources available, limited weekday bus service on Routes 6 and 7 will be offered starting tomorrow. Route 6 serves the Tohono Transit Center to downtown via Euclid and North 1st Avenue. Route 7 serves 22nd Street from Harrison to downtown. During Sun Tran’s work stoppage, limited weekday service is being offered from approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on several routes. Limited Saturday service is offered on Routes 8, 16, and 18, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ride Streetcar to UA Football Game Thursday

University of Arizona football fans can ride the Sun Link streetcar to UA football games. Prior to Thursday's season opener against the University of Texas at San Antonio at 7 p.m., fans can experience the dining, entertainment, and retail opportunities at Main Gate Square, Fourth Avenue, Downtown Tucson, and the Mercado District, and then board the streetcar to the UA from any one of the 23 stops along the 3.9-mile route. Once on campus, Arizona Stadium is a short walk from the Second Street and Cherry Avenue stop.

September in National Preparedness Month

This month marks the 12th annual National Preparedness Month from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As part of the month, Tucson officials are urging you to be prepared for an emergency, such as a multi-day power outage or an interruption in utilities. Be Prepared Tucson advises all residents to create a 72-hour emergency kit. Each member of your family, including pets, should have a kit.
