As part of the Campbell Avenue Streetscape Enhancement Project, crews from Pima Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), are in the process of installing underground irrigation lines across Campbell Avenue between Grant Road and Glenn Street. The irrigation work is scheduled to be finished by this Friday.

The El Rio Theatre Project this weekend presents its 9th annual Shakespeare in the Park, featuring William Shakespeare's “Love’s Labour’s Lost” at the Himmel Park Outdoor Amphitheatre, 1000 N. The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is hoping to fill 25 Community Service Officer positions. As part of the Campbell Avenue Streetscape Enhancement Project, crews from Pima Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation, will begin installing underground irrigation lines across Campbell Avenue between Grant Road and Glenn Street.
The irrigation work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 and be complete by Friday, September 25, 2015. During these three nights, travel on Campbell Avenue between Grant Road and Glenn Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department was recognized again for excellence in the field of parks and recreation management by achieving national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). The department originally was accredited by CAPRA in October 2010. As a requirement of agency accreditation, Parks and Recreation must go through a review process every five years.

The City of Tucson is offering the business community a Tax Amnesty Program. This rare opportunity will allow Tucson business owners to submit delinquent sales tax or license fees without penalty and with reduced interest due on delinquent balances. This is also an opportunity for Tucson businesses that are not licensed to get licensed, without penalty. The amnesty period will run for two months, Sept. 1, 2015 - Oct. 30, 2015.

Each year the United States honors the contributions that Latinos have made to our great country with Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 till October 15. The annual, month long celebration began 26 years ago. Congress had first passed a resolution to celebrate Hispanic Heritage at the national level, as a week long event on September 17, 1968. Nearly 20 years later, on August 17, 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded the celebration to a month.

Through an initiative launched by the City of Tucson and other local agencies in 2013, about 1,200 formerly-homeless veterans now have permanent housing. There are still 442 to go, but Mayor Jonathan Rothschild expects them all to be in apartments by the end of the year.
“If we work diligently over the next four months, we’re on pace to make our goal,” Rothschild said. “Based on our experience from the last 27-28 months and given the additional focus, we should be there.”

The Sun Link streetcar is displaying Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” and “Annabel Lee” on the overhead signs at select stops along the route. There are 23 stops along the streetcar route, 11 of which contain special LED panels that are displaying poetry curated by the University of Arizona Poetry Center. The streaming of the two Poe classics will run though the end of this month.
