Improvements to Country Club Road from Speedway Boulevard to Aviation Parkway began this morning with the lowering of utility covers. On Friday, July 24, crews from Sunland Asphalt will begin milling (removing asphalt) and repaving Country Club Road. Crews will work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with improvements scheduled to be completed in early August. At least one lane of travel in each direction will be maintained during the work.
Sun Link will celebrate its first anniversary with free rides this Saturday, making it a perfect time to tour the public art that adorns the 22 stops. Eight artists designed the artwork for ten streetcar stops and the Sun Link Operations and Maintenance Facility. Another artist designed the art on the Luis G. Gutierrez Bridge. Each piece represents the artist's overall interpretation of "flow" - such as the flow of time, history, words, ideas, etc.

The Loft Cinema's ninth annual Kids Fest is underway and features a free, family-friendly film every morning this week, including a special sing-a-long film on Saturday. Doors open at 9:15 a.m. for pre-show games, live performances, giveaways, popcorn, and surprises. The Loft Cinema is a nonprofit organization and the popular Kids Fest is hosted by Trail Dust Town.

Beginning tonight, crews from Borderland Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will close the intersection of Houghton Rd. and 22nd St. The initial plan to upgrade the water lines at the intersection called for three weeks' worth of work that would close various travel lanes at various times. By completely closing the intersection, crews will be able to expedite the improvements and complete the work in three days rather than three weeks. Adjacent businesses will still be accessible during this project.
The Tucson Police Department (TPD) will be providing a presentation on traffic stop demographics at the monthly meeting of the Citizen's Police Advisory Review Board (CPARB) next Tuesday at the Ward 6 Office, 3202 E. First St. Please enter through the south entrance of the building after 5 p.m. CPARB meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m.
Ride the Sun Link streetcar and enjoy the KXCI Presents: Sun Link Summer in the City Concert Series, a live concert inside a streetcar. The series features concerts throughout the months of June, July and August. The next concert will take place tomorrow night, featuring music from the young, local blues artist Roman Barten-Sherman. Passengers can attend the concert by boarding the streetcar at the stop on Avenida del Convento and Congress (across from Mercado San Agustin) at 7 p.m.
Teams from the Mexican Pacific League will be returning to Tucson Oct. 1-4 for the fifth annual Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta presented by Cox. This year the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Yaquis de Obregon, Aguilas de Mexicali, and the Cañeros de Los Mochis will face off at the City's Hi Corbett Field. The intersection of Houghton Road and 22nd Street will be temporarily closed in order to complete waterline relocation and major construction work in the intersection as quickly as possible and avoid prolonged travel restrictions.
Signage indicating detour routes and segments of Houghton Road and 22nd Street that will be open to local traffic only will be in place to help guide traffic.

Crews will begin the project with the lowering of manhole covers and water valve covers. Lowering the utility covers is scheduled to be complete by Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The City's Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is accepting wait list applications for public housing programs, including the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. All applications must be completed online through the application portal and will be accepted until further notice.
