Arizona leads the United States in the number of flu cases, with Southern Arizona ranked fourth in the country for the amount of increased flu activity this week. Walgreens' flu index tracks the amount of flu medications its pharmacies are selling.
Those who can't get relief through drug store medications are putting a strain on Tucson's hospitals, with wait times as long as six hours at Banner University Medical Center earlier this week. Banner UMC recently came off what it calls an "internal disaster," meaning normal operations of the facility are disrupted.
Ride Sun Tran to La Fiesta de Los Vaqueros Tucson Rodeo this Saturday through Feb. 28. Sun Tran has regularly scheduled bus service to the Laos Transit Center, which is one block from the rodeo grounds and parade route.
The annual rodeo parade will take place next Thursday at 9 a.m. Approximately 200 non-motorized floats will be on display along the 1.5-mile parade route that starts at Park Avenue and Ajo Way.
Four current and retired firefighters from the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) took 2nd place in online voting in the band competition for the national Fire Department Instructor's Conference (FDIC). Known as The Turnouts, the TFD band fell 200 votes shy of winning the top honor and the chance to perform at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis during the FDIC national convention in April.

Ward 5 Councilmember Richard Fimbres is proud to have presented the 2016 City of Tucson, Ward 5 Safety Calendar to Tucson and Pima County’s children and adults. This project showcases both the artistic talents of our youth and the important messages that their drawings represent.
This Pennington project reconstructs and realigns Pennington Street from Sixth Avenue to Toole Avenue, allowing for a safer, more perpendicular intersection of Pennington with Toole. Improvements include new signage, pavement markings, and landscape on Toole, as well as traffic signal upgrades at the Pennington/Toole intersection.
A domestic airline will fly a 50-seat jet four times a week between Tucson and Guaymas, as well as Phoenix and Guaymas. The round-trip flights will cost less than $400, and there will be no charge for the first checked bag, and drinks and snacks will be free.
“The announcement of this route opens a new chapter in Tucson economic development history,” said Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild. “It is fitting that this first route links one of Tucson’s favorite travel destinations to Sonorans’ favorite retail shopping destination."

On Monday, February 22, 2016, Clear Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin work to improve the traffic operations of the Tanque Verde Road, Wilmot Road, Pima Street intersection. Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Monday, February 22, 2016, Day's Excavating will begin work on the realignment of Pennington Street at Toole Avenue. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work. There will also be occasional night work. Pennington Street will be closed at Toole Avenue. At least one travel lane on Toole Avenue will be open in each direction at all times during the project. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times; the sidewalk on at least one side of Toole will remain open. The project is scheduled to be complete mid-May.
Tucson will collect about $1.7 million in liquidated damages from the company that was late in delivering streetcars, delaying Tucson's opening of the transit line. Vigor Works, formerly known as Oregon Iron Works, was the parent company of now-closed United Streetcar, which built Tucson's eight streetcars. The first vehicle was delivered nearly a year late.
