The HSL Properties Tucson Jazz Festival begins this week, kicking off nearly two weeks of jazz at Downtown Tucson venues and surrounding areas, through Jan. 24.
This year's festival opens Thursday at the Fox Tucson Theatre with NEA Jazz Master saxophonist Jimmy Heath performing his arrangements with the Tucson Jazz Institute Ellington Band.
Other events include the free Downtown Jazz Fiesta on Martin Luther King Day, New Orleans-style jazz, piano jazz, and more.

The Earned Sick & Safe Time Stakeholder Meetings will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at different locations. The first is scheduled for this Wednesday at the Ward 5 Council Office, 4300 S. Park Ave. The other two meetings will be Jan. 21 at the Ward 6 Office, 3202 E. 1st St., and Jan. 28 at the Ward 2 Office, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd.
Construction on the new AC Hotel by Marriott in Downtown Tucson at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Broadway Boulevard will cause vehicular restrictions, but pedestrian and bicycle access will be maintained. Starting today, and lasting through approximately May 2017, the left lane of Broadway will be closed between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue from 6 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.
During the closure, all vehicles in the left lane of Broadway will be required to turn left onto northbound Sixth Avenue. Through traffic should use the right lane of Broadway approaching Sixth Avenue.
Starting tomorrow, through the middle of next month, Pima County and its contractor will complete the installation of the temporary flow management piping (FMP) along River Road between Alvernon Way and Hacienda Del Sol.
The piping will be installed in Pima County right-of-way along the north side of River Road between Alvernon Way and Camino Kino. Once the flow management system is installed, it will remain in place until the sewer rehabilitation is complete.
