Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild this week recognized members of the Communications Division of the Tucson Police Department and issued a proclamation declaring April 10-16 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Telecommunicators are the police and fire professionals who take emergency calls and dispatch police officers, firefighters and paramedics.

Tucson is the 9th most dog-friendly city, according to a study from SmartAsset.com. The financial planning website ranked 100 major U.S. cities on six key metrics, with Tucson ranking in the top 10 due to its sunny weather, low housing prices, dog-friendly hiking trails, dog parks, and dog-friendly restaurants. San Francisco, California was ranked as the No. 1 dog-friendly city in the United States.

Singer Janet Jackson announced this week that she's again putting her "Unbreakable" tour on hold. Jackson cites family planning reasons for postponing the tour, saying she needs to rest on doctor's orders.
The 49-year-old singer first delayed her tour last December to have unspecified surgery, but then rescheduled missed dates. Her latest Tucson tour date was rescheduled for May 23 at the Tucson Convention Center, but a new date has not been announced.

The Charter Review Committee (CRC) is out with its final report on possible Charter changes for the Mayor and Tucson City Council to send to voters.
The City Council yesterday decided to schedule a public hearing next month on two of the proposals. While nothing is final yet, the Council wants to gather public input on the recommendations for ward-only elections and eliminating the staggered election cycle.

The Mayor and Tucson City Council yesterday received another budget update from City Manager Michael Ortega. At a retreat Monday, department heads offered plans for cuts, and they continue to work together as a team to help trim a projected $25.6 million deficit for the next fiscal year.
At yesterday's meeting, the City Council generally accepted the amount of the cuts, but it directed Ortega to change a few of the items he suggested earlier in the process.

To help offset the costs of maintaining the huge infrastructure necessary to deliver a reliable water source, Tucson Water is proposing to raise water rates by either an average 7.5 percent or 8.7 percent. If approved by Mayor and Council, the new rates would go into effect July 1.
Tucson Water also has made budget cuts to help keep costs down.

Tucson Water and Arizona Project WET are offering a series of self-guided tours at the Sweetwater Wetlands, 2551 W. Sweetwater Drive. The Discovery Program engages visitors through a journey along the path that surrounds the ponds and recharge basins. Guests can use a QR code reader app on any smart device to view the Wetlands in a scientific way as they navigate around the 60-acre site.

The latest annual report for the Road Recovery bond program shows the 3-year-old plan is ahead of schedule and exceeding initial budget expectations. The Bond Oversight Commission (BOC) oversees the $100 million, 5-year program that voters approved as Proposition 409 in 2012.

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is holding another Coffee with a Cop event tomorrow. There is no planned agenda, other than a simple time to ask questions, voice concerns, and meet the police officers who serve the area. The gathering will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Beyond Bread, 6260 E. Speedway Blvd.

Tucson City Court is closed for business today and tomorrow to transition to a new case management system, Arizona Judicial Automated Case System (AJACS). Full court operations will resume Wednesday.
Tucson City Court will be the largest volume court in the Arizona court system to transition to AJACS and will be converting approximately 440,000 open cases to the new system. Adjudicated cases that met the electronic records retention period will not be part of the transition.
