Deadline Approaching for Business Accelerator Program

Startup Tucson's Thryve ScaleUp growth accelerator program will help 10-14 newly-started companies grow and create jobs. The businesses participate in a rigorous 9-week training and mentorship program, based on a curriculum from courses at the University of Arizona, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The free program is designed for companies that have been in business for at least two years and have annual revenues of $150,000. Startup Tucson funds the program through a five-year, $1.44 million contract from the U.S.

Expanded East Side Walmart Now Hiring

The Walmart Supercenter at 7150 E. Speedway Boulevard is adding approximately 50,000 square feet as part of a multi-million-dollar expansion to its Speedway and Kolb location. Walmart is accepting applications for about 80 new positions that have been created as a result of the expansion. Additionally, Walmart will offer a job to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active duty since Memorial Day 2013 as part of its "Veterans Welcome Home Commitment".

Learn About 30% Design Plan for Broadway Improvement Project at Open House

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) invite the public to attend an open house tonight to discuss the 30% Design Plan for Broadway Boulevard between Euclid Avenue and Country Club Road. The meeting will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sabbar Shrine Temple, 450 South Tucson Boulevard.

Proposed Annexation Would Add 600 Homes to Tucson City Limits

The City of Tucson is attempting to annex about 600 homes near South Alvernon Way and East Valencia Road. The City will ask property owners in the 10-year-old, 174-acre Valencia Reserve neighborhood to sign a petition saying they want to live within city limits. Approximately 310 signatures are needed in one year to move forward with the annexation.

Old Spanish Trail Reconstruction Project Begins Next Week

A four-phase reconstruction project begins Monday on Old Spanish Trail. The work between Houghton Road and 22nd Street will be performed by Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT).

Crews will work from 6 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays on Old Spanish Trail, keeping one lane open in each direction during the work hours. The improvement project is scheduled to be finished this June. The project is part of the voter-approved, $100 million, five-year Road Recovery street bond program.

City Can Help With Your Neighborhood Cleanup

If you and your neighbors would like to clean up your neighborhood, Tucson's Environmental Services department (ES) can help. ES will provide roll-off dumpsters and haul away debris at no charge.

To participate in this program, your association or group must be an ES customer, have 10 or more people helping, or be part of an incorporated homeowners association. Please provide two weeks notice in your request. For more information and a link to the request form, please follow the link above.

Belvedere Avenue and Ralph Avenue Closure at Grant Road

On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, the Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be inspecting storm drain culverts in conjunction with the Grant Road Improvement Project. The traveling public should expect the following traffic impacts:

  • Belvedere Avenue at Grant Road will be CLOSED from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists can access Grant Road via Ralph Avenue.

On Thursday, March 31, 2016, TDOT will work at the intersection of Ralph Avenue and Grant Road. The traveling public should expect the following impacts:

'A' Mountain Access Restricted This Weekend

“A” Mountain will host the Good Friday Cross Procession and Easter Sunday Sunrise Service which will restrict user access to Sentinel Peak Park. In order to accommodate the events, Sentinel Peak Road will close at 3 p.m. tomorrow. It will reopen Saturday at 8 a.m. for pedestrians and bicyclists (an hour later for vehicles).

The roadway will close again on Saturday at 8 p.m. and reopen to all traffic at noon on Sunday.
