The public is invited to attend a public open house for Kolb Road: Connection to Sabino Canyon Road. This project is part of the $2.1 billion, 20-year Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan that was approved by voters in May 2006.

Tucson Water is completing an upgrade to its telephone and online payment system, also known as Online Utility Account Services. Beginning tonight at 7 o'clock, the pay-by-phone system will be shut down. At 8 a.m. tomorrow, the online bill pay service will be unavailable. Access to both services will be restored at 8 a.m. Monday.
Customers still can make payments in person during normal weekday business hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tucson Water will not be charging late fees or pursuing service turn offs during the system upgrade.

Join the City of Tucson Environmental Services and Parks and Recreation departments this Saturday for Know Where to Throw 2015 to learn more about how to reduce, reuse and recycle in Tucson. The event will offer free document shredding, e-waste collection, an information fair, craft activities, a compost demonstration, and a thrift shop fashion show. The Tucson Police Department and other agencies are hosting a free event Saturday to help seniors stay safe and avoid scams. It will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the La Quinta Inn, 102 N. Alvernon Way.

On Thursday, November 12, 2015, as part of the Campbell Avenue Streetscape Enhancement Project, crews from Mountain Power will replace the traffic signals and traffic signal poles at the Campbell Avenue and Glenn Street intersection.
Tucson Police Department officers will direct traffic through the intersection from 10:30 a.m. to noon. One southbound travel lane on Campbell Avenue and one eastbound lane on Glenn Street at the intersection will be closed during the work.

This morning the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the City of Tucson in a case challenging the constitutionality of the City's elections process. Tucson uses a hybrid election system established by voters in 1929, where residents vote only in their ward for primary elections and citywide in the general election when selecting the mayor and council members. In a 2-1 decision, the panel of judges reversed the district court's earlier ruling in favor of the City. Today's ruling will not affect last Tuesday's election results.

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is holding two Coffee with a Cop events on Thursday. There is no planned agenda, other than a simple time to ask questions, voice concerns, and meet the police officers who serve the area. The midtown gathering will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Starbucks, 4811 E. Grant Road. The eastside event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Kneaders Bakery & Cafe, 135 S. Wilmot Road.

The 2017 Site Selectors Guild Annual Conference will be held in Tucson. The guild members assist businesses in finding locations to relocate or expand. Ten locations in Arizona were considered as part of a statewide proposal. Conference attendance is limited to about 350 people, many of whom are economic development professionals looking to network with site selector consultants. Guild members have been involved in many large projects in the region, most recently with the location of the HomeGoods distribution center.

The University of Arizona College of Social and Behavioral Science's annual Downtown Lecture Series finishes up this week. The theme of this year's series focuses on immortality. The final lecture features Shaun Nichols speaking about "The Elusive Self in Life and Death." Professor Nichols will discuss his findings after he and his research team spent months exploring attitudes toward death among Hindus and Tibetan Buddhists in India. The lecture runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Fox Tucson Theatre.

Downtown Tucson will be the host of the annual Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. The parade will stage on West Alameda Street between Granada Avenue and Manning House Way beginning at 9 a.m. The parade begins at 11 a.m., and proceeds east on West Alameda Street and turns north on Stone Avenue to Franklin Street, then turns west on Franklin Street to Church Avenue. At Church Avenue, the parade turns north to Sixth Street/ St. Mary’s Road, proceeds west on Sixth Street/ St. Mary’s Road, then turns south on Granada Avenue and ends at Franklin Street.

On Wednesday, November 11, 2015, crews from Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to reconstruct Old Spanish Trail from Melpomene Way to Houghton Road.
Crews will begin the project with the lowering of manhole covers and water valve covers. Lowering the manhole and valve covers is scheduled to be complete by Thursday, November 12, 2015. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
