The City of Tucson is offering the business community a Tax Amnesty Program, which ends Oct. 30. This rare opportunity will allow Tucson business owners to submit delinquent sales tax or license fees without penalty and reduced interest due on delinquent balances. This is also an opportunity for unlicensed Tucson businesses to get licensed without penalty.

The November 3, 2015 General Election information pamphlet will arrive in voters' mailboxes this weekend and is available for viewing online (link below). The Pima County Elections Department is encouraging voters in the City of Tucson to flip over their ballots, because there are questions on both sides. Ballots must be returned by Nov. 3 to be counted.

Pavement preservation continues next Monday through Thursday as part of the five-year, $100 million Road Recovery bond program that City voters approved in 2012. Fog Sealing is the application of a thin layer of asphalt emulsion that helps cover small roadway imperfections, cracks, or other small voids and seals the existing asphalt to preserve the roadway.

The 28th annual NamJam celebration in Tucson kicks off a number of veteran-related activities leading up to Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Tomorrow's event takes place from 9 a.m. to dusk at Rillito Downs, 4502 N. First Ave. The free celebration includes military displays, food, drinks, and music.

Tucson Parks and Recreation Director Fred Gray is now an elected member of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. Gray was inducted recently at the group's annual meeting at the National Recreation and Park Association Congress. The academy is a group of distinguished practitioners and educators who are leaders in the field of park and recreation.

A second area between the Tucson Music Hall and the Leo Rich Theater has been renovated to its 1970s glory and will open this weekend. Demonstration Area II is part of the Eckbo landscape, a nearly six-acre space that sits north of the Tucson Convention Center (TCC). Work on the park was funded by a private group called TCC Today, which hopes to renew and maintain the TCC, including the Music Hall, Leo Rich Theater, Arena, and the Eckbo landscape.

Last weekend more than 1,100 animals were serviced at the MASH Free Spay/Neuter event, which significantly exceeded its goal to serve 500 animals. A total of 424 dogs and 376 cats were spayed or neutered and another 350 animals were scheduled for free surgery and vaccinations at a future time.

The next time you visit the Los Reales Landfill, you may notice some changes. The City of Tucson's only landfill recently celebrated the completion of its first phase of improvements, including a new entrance, administration building, and more. Watch the Tucson 12 video to see the new look.

The Tucson Fire Department's (TFD) annual charity competition to see which firefighters make the best chili takes place this weekend. Saturday's event will be held from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center at Reid Park. Aside from chili and other food, there will be music, fire trucks, and a kids zone.

48 HOUR MASH FREE SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC A SUCCESS
MORE THAN 1,100 CATS AND DOGS SERVICED
TUCSON - The 48 Hour MASH Free Spay/Neuter Clinic held October 9 through 11, at Los Ranchitos Elementary School was a huge success!
A total of 424 dogs and 376 cats were spayed and neutered and another 350 were scheduled for free spay, neuter and vaccinations at a future time.
The goal for the event was 500 animals.

Tucson Medical Center (TMC) will be the new title sponsor of the 33rd annual El Tour de Tucson, replacing Special Olympics. The bicycle race will take place Nov. 21. TMC becomes the 12th title sponsor of the event.

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department, along with Visit Tucson and Pima Community College, will host the Jennie Finch Softball Camp at the Lincoln Park Softball Complex, 8116 E. Escalante Road. The camp, Oct. 24-25, is open to all girls third grade and up.
