Pavement preservation continues tomorrow and Thursday as part of the five-year, $100 million Road Recovery bond program that City voters approved in 2012.
Fog Sealing is the application of a thin layer of asphalt emulsion that helps cover small roadway imperfections, cracks, or other small voids and seals the existing asphalt to preserve the roadway.

The University of Arizona College of Social and Behavioral Science's annual Downtown Lecture Series begins tomorrow. The theme of this year's series focuses on immortality. The first lecture features J. Edward Wright speaking about "The Histories and Mysteries of Heaven." His lecture runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Fox Tucson Theatre. Overflow seating with a video stream will be available at Hotel Congress and Playground Bar and Lounge.

The Tucson Police Department will hold another Coffee with a Cop event tomorrow morning. There is no planned agenda, other than a simple time to ask questions, voice concerns, and meet the police officers who serve the area. The gathering will take place from 9-11 a.m. at Dunkin' Donuts, 10200 E. Old Vail Road.

Reid Park Zoo is hosting its annual Howl-o-Ween celebration Oct. 23-25. The safe trick-or-treating event features costumed characters, decorations, and limited spooks and scares. The line opens for Zoo members starting at 5:30 p.m. and the public celebration starts at 6 p.m. each night. Tickets can be purchased in advance.

Crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), is continuing a fog seal program associated with the voter-approved $100 million, five-year street bond program – Road Recovery.

Two developers shared their proposals over the summer for the Ronstadt Transit Center Joint Development Project. Both proposals would keep the Ronstadt Center as a bus hub, while adding housing and retail spaces. Responses to questions and comments submitted to the developers are now available at the link above, as are videos of the full presentations, as well as the materials presented.

Construction is underway on a carousel at Reid Park Zoo that will feature hand-carved endangered species from around the world. The carousel is scheduled to be completed this week and will debut Friday at ZOOcson, the Zoo’s annual gala fundraiser. The American-made carousel features 30 animal species, including an elephant, a lemur, a dolphin, and even a giant anteater.

The Citizen Police Advisory Review Board (CPARB) is seeking applications to fill four advisory, non-voting positions for a period not to exceed two years. Formed by the Mayor and City Council in March 1997, CPARB helps promote a citizen/police partnership and reviews and comments on police investigation of citizen complaints.
You must be a resident of the City of Tucson to serve on the panel. The deadline to apply is Nov. 5.

Tucson's biggest block party returns for its fall event on Sunday, Nov. 1, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. More than 30,000 Tucsonans are expected to take part in Cyclovia Tucson, a special day for bicycling and playing on 5 miles of car-free streets. This year's event will take place in the midtown area, featuring 4th Avenue and Fontana Bike Boulevard.
Cyclovia is a chance for people to enjoy the outdoors from outside of a vehicle. You can see the Cyclovia route map, sign up for a volunteer shift, and learn more at the link above.

One of the four lion cubs born at Reid Park Zoo in December 2013 died this week from issues related to valley fever and kidney disease. The University of Arizona, in partnership with Zoo veterinarians, conducted a full necropsy, which revealed that Bakko had significant inflammation and ulceration throughout his stomach. Further results are pending tissue sample tests.

University of Arizona football fans can ride the Sun Link streetcar to the game. Prior to the 1 p.m. Family Weekend game against the Oregon State Beavers, fans can experience the dining, entertainment, and retail opportunities at Main Gate Square, Fourth Avenue, Downtown Tucson, and the Mercado District, and then board the streetcar to the UA from any one of the 23 stops along the 3.9-mile route. Once on campus, Arizona Stadium is a short walk from the Second Street and Cherry Avenue stop.
