The job involves driving in marked police cars and responding to calls of burglary, traffic accidents, and found property. The application deadline is Oct. 11. The Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl will take place Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium. Projected to bring $25 million to Tucson, the bowl game will feature teams from the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA. The Sun Belt Conference will provide a team if the MWC or CUSA can't fill the game. The Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission (ASEC) made the announcement yesterday at the Westin La Paloma Resort.

Officials from the City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) gathered this morning to celebrate the completion of the Kino Parkway – 22nd Street Intersection Improvement Project. The project rebuilt one of the busiest intersections in Southern Arizona with the first grade-separated intersection constructed by the City of Tucson.

The votes are in, and the tapir calf at Reid Park Zoo is now named Toliver. The Zoo received thousands of online votes in the naming contest, so it will sending a $3,000 donation to help protect tapirs in the wild.

Do you have unused chemicals, oils or pesticides sitting in your shed or garage? The City of Tucson is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection tomorrow from 8 a.m.-noon at the Eastside Service Center, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd. Drop off at HHW is free for City of Tucson residents. There is a fee of $10 for each television and $2 for each monitor brought in without a computer.

Vista del Rio's annual Porch Fest is this Sunday. Come down for music from local bands and enjoy a meal from our local food trucks. The event is family friendly.
Vista del Rio is on North Dos Hombres Drive, just north of the intersection of Tanque Verde and Pio Decimo. The festival starts at 4 o'clock.

Car crashes are the leading killer of children between the ages 1 to 19 in the United States. In an effort to keep kids safe, the Tucson Police Department partners with Safe Kids Pima County to offer free car seat checks. In the Tucson 12 video below, learn about some common errors parents make when buckling their children into safety seats. The next car seat safety check is scheduled for this Saturday at Kmart, 7055 E. Broadway Blvd., from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

As of today, Reid Park Zoo is no longer on summer hours. The Zoo is now open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day (an hour later at each end). The Giraffe Encounter will take place at 10 a.m. every day, and on weekends there will be an additional feeding session at 1:30 p.m. Visit the Zoo's website for information about upcoming events.
