Starting tomorrow, Sun Tran will add Routes 11 and 29 to the limited Saturday schedule, which will run from approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The two routes will operate in addition to recently-added Routes 8, 16, and 18.
Meanwhile, Sun Tran will run the same limited weekday schedule available during the work stoppage on Labor Day. There will be service on Routes 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 16, 18, 25 and 29, from approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Reid Park Zoo’s Baird’s tapir, Contessa, gave birth to a male calf last Saturday. The calf appears healthy, is nursing regularly, and is becoming more active. Mother and baby will remain behind the scenes for approximately three weeks to gain strength and to bond with minimal stress. Contessa’s pregnancy lasted approximately 13 months. The calf has not been named yet.

The City of Tucson, Pima Animal Care Center (PACC), and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona are teaming up to kick off Tucson’s “Love Your Pup, License Up” campaign with a special licensing event Sept. 12, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Late fees will be waived, but regular fees apply. Free rabies vaccinations will be available on site from 10 a.m.-noon (dogs must be at least 3 months old).

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) currently has multiple vacancies for Police Service Operator within the Communications Division. The Police Service Operator position involves skilled telephone communications work that includes answering emergency and non-emergency calls for service. It requires the operator to interview, evaluate, and verify information from callers.

Several high-end auto dealerships along Wetmore Road, just outside of the Tucson Auto Mall, have signed an agreement to move into the City of Tucson and pay the 2 percent City sales tax. As part of the agreement, which still requires Mayor and City Council approval, the dealers would be reimbursed a portion of the sales tax for 10 years to help them pay for training, college tuition, and workforce development.

The City of Tucson will observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday, meaning all offices will be closed, except for emergency services.
Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday. All City residential and commercial customers will have their trash and recycling service delayed by one day. The Los Reales Landfill also will be closed on Monday.

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer Recruit. Successful candidates from this testing period will be considered for future academy class(es). The earliest academy that will be filled from this list will be in April. Applications are being accepted through Sept. 27.
