In cooperation with the City of Tucson and Pima County, Tucson Clean & Beautiful is offering residents the opportunity to purchase commemorative trees to be planted along Pantano River Park.
The trees are available to buy through Tucson Clean & Beautiful for $225 each (partially tax deductible). The price includes the tree, irrigation lines, number marker installation, name dedication at a commemorative plaza, dedication certificate, and guaranteed replacement.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Postal Service (USPS) on Friday responded to U.S. Rep. McSally’s calls to update studies used to propose the consolidation of postal facilities around the country, including the Cherrybell Postal Processing facility in Tucson. In the response, Deputy Postmaster General Ronald Stroman confirmed that the current studies will be updated and reviewed before any future decisions are made, something Rep. McSally called for in a letter earlier this month. The USPS response also confirmed that previous plans to close down facilities continue to be deferred.

Tucson City Manager Michael Ortega will update the Mayor and Tucson City Council tomorrow on his latest plan to help balance the budget for the new fiscal year that begins July 1.
Ortega and City staff continue to come up with ways to reduce a projected $25.6 million deficit heading into the budget year. A hiring freeze, an early retirement incentive, and other cost cutting measures helped whittle down the estimated shortfall from more than $42 million back in December.

The Presidential Preference Election in Arizona is tomorrow, and it's too late to mail in your ballot if you haven't done so already. You can still cast that ballot and drop it off at any of the Pima County Recorder's Early Voting sites - 240 N. Stone Ave., 6920 E. Broadway Blvd. (Suite D), and 6550 S. Country Club Road. You can also drop off your ballot at any polling location tomorrow during the 6 a.m.-7 p.m. voting hours.

In conjunction with World Water Day, the event is intended to raise awareness of U.S. water issues and potential solutions using science and technology to help build a sustainable and secure water future.

The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for water safety instructors (WSI) and lifeguards this summer. More than 150 lifeguards and swimming instructors are needed for seasonal work at City of Tucson pools, beginning the week of May 23. Applicants must be at least 16 years old at time of hire and have knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques, and first aid.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed a bill yesterday that intends to financially penalize cities that pass laws or policies that don't comply with state law.
SB 1487, which takes effect later this year, requires the state treasurer to withhold revenue sharing dollars from any city or county once the attorney general concludes the local laws or policies are contrary to state statutes.

The 16th annual César E. Chávez March & Rally starts tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at Pueblo High School, 3500 S. 12th Ave. The festivities begin with a walk to Rudy Garcia Park at South 6th Avenue and Irvington Road where the rally will take place. All activities are free.
This year's event will include more than 300 students from all over the United States who are in Tucson for the national Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) Conference.

Within the next month or two, the Go Tucson app will allow you to pay parking tickets from your smartphone. The app from Park Tucson already lets you pay at parking meters and can be used for fares for Sun Tran buses and the Sun Link streetcar.

Tucson firefighters rescued five puppies from a fire that destroyed a home on Wednesday and displaced its four residents. When crews from the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) arrived at the home near Fort Lowell Road and Stone Avenue, they saw heavy smoke at the house and discovered the fire was coming from the back bedroom.

Tucson Fire Department (TFD) Chief Jim Critchley is offering a $4.7 million budget reduction plan to help the City of Tucson balance its budget for the next fiscal year and beyond.
In a recently-released memo to staff, Critchley's plan includes job reclassifications and possible demotions, reducing overtime, not filling some vacancies, converting some commissioned fire prevention inspectors to civilian positions, and other cost savings.
