The City of Tucson is hiring a Coordinated Entry Assessment and Housing Navigation Coordinator for its Housing and Community Development (HCD) department. This new position is primarily responsible for support in implementation of the community's assessment and housing navigation plan.

As of this morning, June 24, there are now 6,318 reports of COVID-19 cases in Pima County and 59,974 in Arizona. Those numbers include cases where people have recovered, as state health officials do not track recoveries. There have now been 1,463 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona.
Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website that includes information for businesses, residents, and even activities for kids. The site is updated as information continues to evolve.

The Bighorn Fire in the Coronado National Forest has grown to nearly 75,000 acres and is 33% contained. Catalina Highway is still closed to the public at milepost zero. Only residents and business owners may pass. Campgrounds on Mount Lemmon also are closed.

Spring Point Partners is awarding Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) a $150,000 grant. The funds will be dedicated to further expanding the shelter’s foster program, creating a system to reduce pets’ length of stay in the shelter and get them into foster and adoptive homes more quickly.

The City of Tucson is postponing this year’s annual “A” Mountain Fireworks celebration that was scheduled for July 4. The decision was made due to the risk of increased community spread of COVID-19 and the extreme fire danger in the region as evidenced by the ongoing battle with the Bighorn Fire.
A news release will be issued and announcements made via the City’s website and social media platforms when the event is rescheduled.

In honor of Pride Month, five Pride flags are now flying on the west side of the Tucson Convention Center (TCC). "I wanted to make sure to show our city’s solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community and commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969," said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero in a tweet.

With the understanding that some businesses may need support in acquiring non-medical PPE (face masks, sanitizer, and gloves) for employees until supply chains stabilize, Pima County and the Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) will begin distributing PPE to local businesses in the downtown Business Improvement District.

The City of Tucson’s new online utility payment system (water, sewer, and trash/recycling) is now in operation. All customers must register to set up or continue online and automatic bill payments.
The new system offers several benefits, including enrolling in autopay, making one-time payments, managing multiple accounts, viewing a bill, and setting up email/text payment reminders. For security reasons, the City cannot transfer a customer’s account and financial information.

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility is planning a neighborhood traffic safety and bicycle boulevard project – Michigan/Fair Bicycle Boulevard. This project is part of the voter-approved Proposition 407 Tucson Delivers Parks and Connections Program that will expand the citywide low-stress biking and walking network by creating calmer residential streets. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in mid March 2020, Planning and Development Services made a full transition to online operations. Since that time, PDSD has managed to process, review, and issue 1,600 permits. Development in Tucson is still moving forward at a healthy pace. However, PDSD is currently experiencing a significant permitting backlog. To address the backlog, starting June 26, 2020 PDSD is transitioning to a more efficient method of operations:

The City of Tucson is hosting two virtual budget presentations with City Manager Michael Ortega and Chief Financial Officer Joyce Garland. The first meeting will be held tonight, June 22, at 5:30 p.m. That presentation will be followed by another one next Monday, June 29, at noon.

All passengers are now required to use a face covering or mask on public transit vehicles and at transit centers. Passengers can wear non-medical masks, cloths, bandanas, or scarves.
