László Veres announced that he is “winding down” his tenure with the Tucson Pops Orchestra this summer.
It’s a loss for Tucson, to be sure, but those of us who enjoy the concerts of the Arizona Symphonic Winds, an ensemble he founded in 1986, have at least a few more seasons to hear them play at Udall Park.
The removal of existing asphalt, subgrade preparation and base paving work will take place at the Broadway and Campbell Avenue intersection from 6 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021, until about 5 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021. During this work, the north side of the Broadway and Campbell Avenue intersection will be closed to travel.
The City of Tucson will discontinue the option to use Advance Payment Accounts (APA) to facilitate the transition to a new multi-departmental permitting system and given other online payment options currently available, including credit card and ACH (electronic check). APA accounts will be phased out over the next few months with ample time for larger projects and developers who currently rely on these accounts to adjust and establish alternate means of payment.
The City of Tucson and Pima County’s Eviction Prevention Program, administered by the Community Investment Corporation, got some recognition this week from local media.
Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15 through October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month, which traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries.
BrightView Landscaping, under contract with the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) Streets Maintenance Division, will be trimming palm trees for the next few weeks in City median islands. There will be intermittent, median island travel lane closures as the contractor moves through the project areas. Crews will work from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday.
