Open House Monday for Church Avenue Street Project

The Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) is considering changes to Church Avenue and it wants to hear public comments about the proposed redesign. Potential improvements to Church, from St. Marys Road to Cushing Street, include a two-way center turn lane for safety, a continuous bicycle facility, additional parking, and enhanced pedestrian crossings. The open house for the plan will be held Monday, 5:30-7 p.m., in the basement of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N.

Celebrate Park Improvements at Mission Manor Park

A Community Development Block Grant of $458,000 funded recent improvements to Mission Manor Park, 6100 S. 12th Ave. The park has a new playground and swings, irrigation improvements, and a new ramada with lighting, outlets, and tables with benches. All improvements are ADA accessible. Other improvements include the installation of a new state-of-the-art energy efficient lighting system and a remotely-controlled scoreboard installed on baseball field one.

KIDCO Hosts 'Lights on Afterschool' Celebration

The City of Tucson's Parks and Recreation Department's KIDCO program is taking part in this week's 16th annual "National Lights On Afterschool" event, promoting the need for after-school programs in the Tucson community. Bring a blanket or chair to watch singing and dancing performances by participants in KIDCO and the In-Betweeners Club (IBC). The free event begins tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center at Reid Park, and food will be available for purchase.

Road Recovery Fog Seal Program Continues This Week

A couple of streets will undergo pavement preservation beginning tomorrow and Friday. Fog Sealing is the application of a thin layer of asphalt emulsion that helps cover small roadway imperfections, cracks, or other small voids and seals the existing asphalt to preserve the roadway. Crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division will work from 9 a.m.-noon, but will keep at least one lane of travel open in each direction.

Study Finds Tucson '5th Best Warm City for Winter Holiday Travel'

In anticipation of the holiday season, WalletHub analysts compared 69 of the largest metropolitan areas to find the best winter travel destinations for lovers of warm and cold weather, and Tucson ranked fifth on the warm side. The study analyzed 26 key metrics, ranging from the cost of the cheapest flight to the number of attractions in each winter vacation spot. The Las Vegas region took the top spot for warm destinations, while the Atlanta metro area earned the top ranking for cold areas.

On Thursday, October 22, 2015, crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division will begin fog sealing Columbus Boulevard between 22nd Street and Broadway. Work will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. During the work, only one travel lane will be available; flaggers will help direct motorists through the work zone.

City of Tucson Tax Workshop This Week

Learn your rights and responsibilities for Transaction Privilege (Sales) Taxation by attending a Tax and License Workshop sponsored by the City of Tucson Finance Department. The retail workshop will be from 10:30 a.m.-noon Thursday at the Murphy-Wilmot Library, 530 N. Wilmot Road.

Questions will be answered and written materials will be available. Samples of sales tax records, worksheets, and monthly returns will be explained. You should bring a calculator and a pencil to the free workshop.
