Paul's Note - September 23, 2022

My colleagues and I haven't made the final decision on what will happen to transit fares after the period of free fares ends on December 31. The discussion isn’t just among members of the council. My staff has had regular meetings with Sun Tran users and we’ve been holding listening sessions with Sun Van riders. I also met with Patrick Robles, the student body president of the University of Arizona, to discuss the concerns of students who are one of the major users of both Sun Tran and Sun Link. 

Operation Splash 2022 Ends


As the region’s thunderstorm season comes to an end, the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility’s (DTM) Operation Splash initiative and sandbag distribution operations has concluded. The self-serve sandbag distribution site, located at Hi Corbett Field, has been open since June 2022 to offer free sandbags to residents concerned with flooding during the summer’s monsoons.

We are giving Ward 2 residents a chance to hear an update from Chief Ryan about your Tucson Fire Department. Time for questions and comments will be included, light refreshments will be served.  

The meet-and-greet will be at my office at 7575 E Speedway on Wednesday, October 26th from 5:30 to 6:30. 

Follow-up Virtual Session to Community Strategy Forum to Address Unsheltered Homelessness in the Tucson Area

In a follow up to last month's two-day community strategy forum on unsheltered homelessness, the City of Tucson Housing and Community Development (HCD) and Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness (TPCH) will hold a listening virtual session on Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. 

Traffic Alert - Traffic Signal Work, 22nd Street and Pantano Road Intersection



On Thursday, September 15, 2022, crews from Next Generation Electrical, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), are scheduled to rewire the traffic signals at the 22nd Street and Pantano Road intersection, west of the Pantano Wash.

Stone Avenue Underpass Reopens

On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, Stone Avenue at Sixth Street, including the Stone Avenue underpass, is scheduled to reopen to all northbound and southbound travel by 5 p.m. The traveling public will use the new intersection configuration at Sixth Street, which will also allow motorists traveling northbound on Stone Avenue to proceed eastbound onto Sixth Street.
