A second area between the Tucson Music Hall and the Leo Rich Theater has been renovated to its 1970s glory and will open this weekend. Demonstration Area II is part of the Eckbo landscape, a nearly six-acre space that sits north of the Tucson Convention Center (TCC). Work on the park was funded by a private group called TCC Today, which hopes to renew and maintain the TCC, including the Music Hall, Leo Rich Theater, Arena, and the Eckbo landscape.
Last weekend more than 1,100 animals were serviced at the MASH Free Spay/Neuter event, which significantly exceeded its goal to serve 500 animals. A total of 424 dogs and 376 cats were spayed or neutered and another 350 animals were scheduled for free surgery and vaccinations at a future time.
The next time you visit the Los Reales Landfill, you may notice some changes. The City of Tucson's only landfill recently celebrated the completion of its first phase of improvements, including a new entrance, administration building, and more. Watch the Tucson 12 video to see the new look.
The Tucson Fire Department's (TFD) annual charity competition to see which firefighters make the best chili takes place this weekend. Saturday's event will be held from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center at Reid Park. Aside from chili and other food, there will be music, fire trucks, and a kids zone.

TUCSON - The 48 Hour MASH Free Spay/Neuter Clinic held October 9 through 11, at Los Ranchitos Elementary School was a huge success!
A total of 424 dogs and 376 cats were spayed and neutered and another 350 were scheduled for free spay, neuter and vaccinations at a future time.
The goal for the event was 500 animals.
The Tucson Pima Arts Council (TPAC) and Mayor Jonathan Rothschild's office present the sixth exhibit co-produced for the Mayor’s Gallery. This year’s collection celebrates the Sonoran outdoors with a collection of plein air paintings by four local artists. Plein air refers to the act of painting in outdoor daylight, a type of painting most notably used by French Impressionists and seen in works like Monet’s Water Lilies.

Now that early ballots have arrived for those who requested them for the consolidated General Election, the Pima County Elections Department is encouraging voters in the City of Tucson and Town of Oro Valley to be sure to flip over their ballots, because there are questions on both sides. There is an instruction at the bottom of the ballot reminding people to vote both sides of the ballot, but election officials have received calls and comments from voters that their ballot seemed incomplete, not realizing they needed to turn it over.

The University of Arizona College of Social and Behavioral Science's annual Downtown Lecture Series begins tomorrow. The theme of this year's series focuses on immortality. The first lecture features J. Edward Wright speaking about "The Histories and Mysteries of Heaven." His lecture runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Fox Tucson Theatre. Overflow seating with a video stream will be available at Hotel Congress and Playground Bar and Lounge.
The Tucson Police Department will hold another Coffee with a Cop event tomorrow morning. There is no planned agenda, other than a simple time to ask questions, voice concerns, and meet the police officers who serve the area. The gathering will take place from 9-11 a.m. at Dunkin' Donuts, 10200 E. Old Vail Road.
