City Can Help with Your Neighborhood Cleanup

If you and your neighbors would like to clean up your neighborhood, Tucson's Environmental Services department (ES) can help. ES will provide roll-off dumpsters and haul away debris at no charge. To participate in this program, your association or group must be an ES customer, have 10 or more people helping, or be part of an incorporated homeowners association. Please provide two weeks notice in your request. For more information and a link to the request form, visit the ES website.

Councilmember Richard Fimbres 4th of July Safety Message

TUCSON – Ward 5 Councilmember Richard Fimbres wants everyone to have safe time over the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend.


As you all know, we will all be at various events this weekend celebrating our nation’s birthday.


It is important during these times, to be mindful of the heat, careful using fireworks and please don’t drink and drive.  If you choose to drink, please designate a driver, call a cab, use Uber or Lyft with city first drive discount.


Lane Closure - Broadway Boulevard - Sixth Avenue to Fifth Avenue

On Tuesday, July 5, 2016, between 10:30 p.m. and 9 a.m., the left lane of Broadway Boulevard from Sixth Avenue to Fifth Avenue will be closed.  This closure is the same as the daily lane closure that occurs between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.  The lane closure is necessary to accommodate a concrete pour for the new AC Marriot Hotel in Downtown Tucson being constructed on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Broadway Boulevard.

Stone Avenue - Drachman Street to First Street

On Tuesday, July 5, 2016, crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin work on Speedway Boulevard at Stone Avenue as part of the Stone Avenue, Drachman Street to First Street Roadway Improvement Project.  Crews will be saw cutting concrete across Speedway Boulevard during the hours of 5 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. During this work, travel lane restrictions will be in place.

Alvernon Way and Ft. Lowell Road Intersection Improvements


On Tuesday and Wednesday, July 5 and 6, 2016, crews from Sunland Asphalt, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin lowering manhole covers and water valve covers in the intersection of Alvernon Way and Ft. Lowell Road in preparation of an upcoming intersection improvement project. Crews will work 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

"A" Mountain Fireworks Celebration July 4

The 20th Annual “A” Mountain Fireworks Celebration will start at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Monday, July 4.

Sponsored by Desert Diamond Casinos and Entertainment, residents may enjoy the fireworks from the Tucson Convention Center’s (TCC) Parking Lot B (off Cushing Street between Granada and Church Avenue) or Parking Lot C (off Granada between Broadway Boulevard and Cushing Street).

Parking will be free. There also will be food vendors (burgers, hot dogs, ice cream and refreshments) available from 7-9 p.m.

Tomorrow is Last Day to Buy Summer Discount Pass for Transit and City Pools

Tucson's SummerGo Youth Pass is available to purchase through tomorrow (July 1). The $45 pass gives students ages 6 to 18 unlimited rides on public transit and free entrance to all city pools.

SummerGO can be purchased at several recreation centers and city pools. A student ID is required for purchase. The pass is valid through Aug. 5.

Summer Safari Nights Program Continues at Reid Park Zoo

Enjoy Reid Park Zoo and cooler evening temperatures at a themed night featuring different zookeeper chats, animal encounters, live music, family friendly activities, special dining options, and gift shop discounts. Events take place every Friday, 6-8 p.m., through July 8.

Tomorrow's theme is Spots and Stripes Forever: Zebra, Giraffe, Tiger, Tapir & Jaguar.

Law Enforcement Partners with Uber for a Safe Holiday

If you need a safe ride home this 4th of July weekend, the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force is offering discounted Uber rides to deter drunk driving. In a new partnership with Uber, you can use promo codes that are good for up to $35 off three rides.

New users can get $15 off their first ride using the promo code NODUITUCSON. New and existing users can get $10 off two separate rides using promo code SAFE4THTUS. The codes are valid from 5 p.m. July 1 through 4 a.m. July 5.

Twilight Thursdays Continue at Botanical Gardens

Enjoy summer nights at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. As part of its Summer Oasis Series, the Botanical Gardens is open every Thursday night, 5-8 p.m., for guests to enjoy the garden setting without the intense summer sun.

Leashed dogs are welcome with an add-on admission charge.

The onsite restaurant, Cafe Botanica, will be open and serving dinner (reservations required).
