Street Bonds Road Recovery - Crack Seal Program Update

Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), is continuing its crack seal program associated with the voter-approved $100 million, five-year street bond program - Road Recovery.

The dates, work hours and locations for the next set of roadway improvements are listed below. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather.

Wednesday, February 12 through Friday, March 3 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Houghton Road: Irvington Road to Valencia Road

VALENCIA ROAD PAVING

On Monday, February 17, 2014, the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Hunter Contracting will be paving Valencia Road at Houghton Road.

Valencia Road will be closed to travel from Houghton Road west to Frost Drive. The paving work is scheduled to be complete in one day. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Northbound and southbound travel on Houghton Road at this location will not be restricted. Motorists needing access to Valencia Road west of Frost Drive are asked to use Rita Road to Nexus Road.

'Light The Night' Bicycle Campaign

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) is once again partnering with the Living Streets Alliance and the Pima Association of Governments (PAG) to sponsor a “Light the Night” bicycle light distribution campaign. 

Bicycle lights will be installed on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, from 5 p.m. until supplies last, at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Dakota Street, just west of Apollo Middle School, 265 West Nebraska St. 

Emergency Water Line Work

Tucson Water crews will be performing emergency water line work which may cause lower-than-normal water pressure for some customers in parts of east Tucson. This water line needs to be replaced as a result of nearby construction activity.

Work is to begin immediately. It is not known how long repairs will take.

The area affected is Tanque Verde / Wrightstown Roads on the north; Sarnoff Road on the east; Pima Street on the south; and Camino Pio Decimo on the west. Customers in this area may notice reduced pressure, but continue to have water service.

Houghton Road Project Open House

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) invite you to attend an open house for the Houghton Road: Broadway Boulevard to 22nd Street project. This project is part of the overall plan to improve Houghton Road from Tanque Verde Road to Interstate 10. The open house is scheduled for February 25th at Pantano Christian Church (1755 S Houghton Road) from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Details available here.

St. Mary’s Road/Sixth Street I-10 to Church Avenue Roadway Improvement Project

On Thursday, January 16, 2014, the contractor will switch traffic control from the temporary traffic signals to the new permanent traffic signals at the Granada Avenue and St. Mary’s Road intersection. During the work and until the new traffic signals are in operation, Tucson Police officers will direct traffic through the intersection. The work is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and be complete by 3 p.m.
