Claire Weeks - Terra del Sol Park

The re-naming of Terra del Sol Park will take place on January 27, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. The park will be re-named after Clair Weeks. Clair Weeks lived in the Terra del Sol neighborhood for many years and has been very active in the community. In addition, she served as the president of the Terra del Sol Neighborhood Association for 18 years and made many achieved efforts with neighborhood and park improvements.

St. Mary’s Road/Sixth Street I-10 to Church Avenue Roadway Improvement ProjectTraffic Signal Control Changes at Houghton Road and Broadway Intersection

On Thursday, January 9, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m., the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and Borderland Construction will switch traffic control from the old traffic signals to the new temporary traffic signals at the Houghton Road and Broadway intersection. During the work and until the new temporary traffic signals are in operation, Tucson Police officers will direct traffic through the intersection. The switch-over is scheduled to be complete by 4 p.m. the same day.

Glenn Street Chip Seal - Craycroft Road to Sahuara Avenue

On Wednesday, January 8, 2014, the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and Western Emulsions will begin a chip seal project on Glenn Street from Craycroft Road to Sahuara Avenue.

TDOT crews have prepared the roadway for the chip seal application by repairing potholes and sweeping the roadway. At about 10 a.m. on Wednesday, crews will begin the chip seal process. The work is scheduled to be complete by 3 p.m. the same day.

Downtown Weekend Events - Travel Information

Downtown Tucson will be the host of the 19th Annual Downtown Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 21, 2013. The parade will stage on 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th Streets between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. at 17th Street and Stone Avenue and proceeds Stone Avenue, turns east on Ochoa Street to Scott Avenue, then turns east on 12th Street to Sixth Avenue and ends at Sixth Avenue and 13th Street by Armory Park.

CWC2 Joshua B. Silverman

Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset tomorrow, December 20, 2013, in honor of U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Two Joshua B. Silverman, 35, of Scottsdale, Arizona.

CW2 Silverman was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom when he and five other soldiers died in a helicopter crash on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, in Now Bahar, Afghanistan. He had been assigned to the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Street Bonds Road Recovery - Crack Seal Program Update

Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), is continuing its crack seal program associated with the voter-approved $100 million, five-year street bond program - Road Recovery.

The dates, work hours and locations for the next set of roadway improvements are listed below. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather.

Wednesday, December 18 through Friday, January 3 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Holiday Trash Pick-up and Closures

The Christmas holiday will be observed on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 and the New Year’s Day holiday will be observed on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Trash and recycling will not be collected on Wednesday of the holiday weeks. City of Tucson residential and commercial customers with regular service on Wednesday through Friday will have their trash and recycling service delayed by one day.

Fourth Avenue Street Fair - Travel Information

Fourth Avenue will be the host of the annual Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair this weekend.  The Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair begins on Friday, December 13, 2013 and is open daily through the weekend from 10 a.m., until 6 p.m.  Attendance for the Street Fair is estimated to be approximately 300,000 people, so please adjust travel plans accordingly.  For both your safety and your pet’s safety, pets are not allowed at the Street Fair.  Parking for this event with free shuttle service is provided from either the Main Gate Square Garages (Euclid Avenue at First Street, or Tyndall Avenue at
