City of Tucson Tax Workshop This Week

Learn your rights and responsibilities for Transaction Privilege (Sales) Taxation by attending a Tax and License Workshop sponsored by the City of Tucson Finance Department. The retail workshop will be from 10:30 a.m.-noon Thursday at the Murphy-Wilmot Library, 530 N. Wilmot Road.

Questions will be answered and written materials will be available. Samples of sales tax records, worksheets, and monthly returns will be explained. You should bring a calculator and a pencil to the free workshop.

Services for Albert Elías Sr. to Be Held This Week

Local businessman and labor union leader Albert M. Elías passed away Friday morning at the age of 86. A fourth generation Tucsonan, his family's history traces back to the presidio when Tucson was a Spanish colony. In 2004, Rep. Raúl Grijalva honored Elías with Special Recognition on the House floor for his then 50 years of service to the labor movement and the Typographical Union.

Learn About Tucson Police Foundation and Civil Service Commission

The Tucson Police Foundation and the Civil Service Commission will be providing overview presentations of their organizations at the monthly meeting of the Citizen Police Advisory Review Board (CPARB) tomorrow at the Ward 6 Office, 3202 E. First St. Please enter through the south entrance of the building after 5 p.m. CPARB meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m.

Mark Your Calendar for a Discussion about Water in Southern Arizona

The Central Arizona Project (CAP) and the Water Resources Research Center, University of Arizona, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, will be hosting "Sustainable Water for Southern Arizona: Current Conditions and Future Prospects," a free community water forum on Friday, Nov. 6 from 7:30-11 a.m. at the Leo Rich Theater at the Tucson Convention Center, 260 South Church Ave.

'The Choice is Yours' Voter Information Pamphlet Available Online

The November 3, 2015 General Election information pamphlet will arrive in voters' mailboxes this weekend and is available for viewing online (link below). The Pima County Elections Department is encouraging voters in the City of Tucson to flip over their ballots, because there are questions on both sides. Ballots must be returned by Nov. 3 to be counted.

Inaugural 10West Festival Starts Sunday

10West is a week-long festival that highlights technology, entrepreneurship, and the new creative class to share perspectives and create innovative solutions. The festival will feature live music, workshops, talks, and other activities at multiple locations downtown and on 4th Avenue from Oct. 18 - 24. Road Recovery Fog Seal Program Continues Next Week

Pavement preservation continues next Monday through Thursday as part of the five-year, $100 million Road Recovery bond program that City voters approved in 2012. Fog Sealing is the application of a thin layer of asphalt emulsion that helps cover small roadway imperfections, cracks, or other small voids and seals the existing asphalt to preserve the roadway.

'NamJam' this Weekend

The 28th annual NamJam celebration in Tucson kicks off a number of veteran-related activities leading up to Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Tomorrow's event takes place from 9 a.m. to dusk at Rillito Downs, 4502 N. First Ave. The free celebration includes military displays, food, drinks, and music.

City Parks and Recreation Director Elected to National Group

Tucson Parks and Recreation Director Fred Gray is now an elected member of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. Gray was inducted recently at the group's annual meeting at the National Recreation and Park Association Congress. The academy is a group of distinguished practitioners and educators who are leaders in the field of park and recreation.
