Tucson Police Helping Refugee Youth

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) is participating in a refugee youth mentorship program that is part of a partnership with Lutheran Social Services. There are currently four police officers and two community service offices who are mentoring the youth refugees, and two of those being mentored are in our hiring pipeline.

TPD says it's important the police force reflects the diverse population in our community. KGUN9 recently featured a story on the program.

Thrive in the 05 and Partner Agencies to Screen Early Childhood Education Documentary

Thrive in the 05, Child & Family Resources, Pima Community College, and other agencies will host a free screening of the movie "No Small Matter," a documentary about early childhood education. The event takes place on Monday, Feb. 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Pima Community College Downtown Campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave., Amethyst Room (CC180).

ADA Ramps and New Sidewalk - Wilmot Rd - Broadway to Carondelet Dr

On Monday, February 17, 2020, KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, is scheduled to begin work to install ADA compliant ramps and new sidewalk along the east side of Wilmot Road, just north of Broadway to Carondelet Drive.

During the work, the northbound curb lane and bike lane will be closed. Work will take place from approximately 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. This project is scheduled to be complete in mid-April 2020. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Tucson Water is preparing a new comprehensive long range plan for the first time since 2004, based on a nationally recognized integrated approach to water resource management known as “One Water.”

City Holiday Closures

The City of Tucson will observe Presidents Day next Monday, Feb. 17. All City offices, except for emergency services, will be closed.

Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, but the Los Reales Landfill will be open. All City of Tucson residential and commercial customers will have their trash and recycling services delayed by one day next week.
