The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department is seeking a project manager to help lead and manage multiple complex construction projects to improve City park amenities. Duties include preparing documents regarding contract agreements, reviewing specifications and cost estimates, forecasting timelines, devising solutions to problems, and conducting and attending meetings with associated parties.

With the changes to our curb-side recycling program, I thought it would be a good time to remind all of you that the neighborhood recycling center at the Ward 2 office is still open and ready for all of your recyclables.
A few years ago, the neighborhood recycling center was located at Udall Park, but the bins were moved to our lot when there was a lot of what is termed in the recycling business “contamination.” The rest of us would call it, “things that are pretty obviously not supposed to be thrown into the recycling bin.”

The Mayor and Tucson City Council yesterday, Oct. 10, voted 4-3 to advance a plan to raise the age for buying tobacco and vaping products in city limits from 18 to 21. The plan, brought forth by Ward 3 Council member Paul Durham, will come back for a final vote on the proposed ordinance on Oct. 22.
If approved, the ordinance would take effect on Jan. 1, 2020. For more information on the proposal, read Mayor and Council agenda materials (item 3).

The next 2nd Saturdays Downtown takes place tomorrow, Oct. 12. Events during the day include Locomotive Saturday at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, Living History Day at the Presidio San Agustin del Tucson, and Family Brain Boost at Children's Museum Tucson. Evening events include live music at the Mercado San Agustin and other locations.

Utility payment drop box service is unavailable at the Thomas O. Price Service Center, 4004 S. Park Avenue (Park Avenue and Ajo Way) until Nov. 12 due to site construction that includes installing a solar shade in the parking lot.
A shuttle is in service from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays for customers who would like to submit their utility payment directly to staff inside the center. Customers are asked to observe temporary parking signs.

Tucson Parks and Recreation will host a Spooky PAWchanga event tomorrow, Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-noon, at Cherry Avenue Center, 5058 S. Cherry Ave. Free activities include doggy trick-or-treat lane, a "pawrade," dog adoptions, face painting for humans, movie, arts and crafts, vendors, and other resources.

The Tucson City Clerk's Office is mailing ballots to voters tomorrow, Oct. 10, for the vote-by-mail City of Tucson general election on Nov. 5. The deadline for voters to return their voted ballots by mail is Oct. 30, to allow enough time for them to arrive by Election Day.

The City of Tucson Transportation Department is planning four neighborhood traffic safety and bicycle boulevard projects. The Michigan/Fair, Cherry, Greenway, and Bantam Bicycle Boulevard projects expand low-stress biking and walking networks citywide by creating calmer residential streets.

Celebrate 46 years of food, entertainment, and culture downtown at the annual Tucson Meet Yourself Folklife Festival this weekend, Oct. 11-13. This free, three-day event recognizes the living traditional arts and expressions of everyday life of the folk and ethnic communities of the multi-national Arizona-Sonora region.

The City of Tucson is recruiting well maintenance mechanics to join its Tucson Water department. Mechanics perform general repairs and maintenance to wells, deep well pumps, and related equipment, as well as monitor water levels and pumping pressures.
Duties also include preparing pumps and pump rigs for installation. Certified crane operators are eligible to earn an additional $5 per hour during crane operation.

Tucson Parks and Recreation and Pima Community College East Campus present Boo Bash at Lincoln Park on October 19, a fun-filled night of tricks and treats. Come enjoy carnival games, trunk-or-treat, a costume parade, and more. The costume parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. This free event for the whole family will take place at the Lincoln Park soccer fields, 4325 S Pantano Road.
Food will be available from Cody Coyote Kettle Corn, Geronimo's Revenge, Bemo's Ol' Joe's and Pin-Up Pastries.

Below is a list of road closures that will be in place for vendor set-up and the event. Please note that pedestrian and bicycle access is being maintained in and around road closures.
Tuesday, October 8, 2019, from 6 p.m. to Sunday, October 13, 2019 at midnight – Stone Avenue will be closed from Congress Street to Alameda Street. Pennington Street will be closed from Church Avenue to Scott Avenue.
