Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair Starts Friday

The 50th Annual Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair is Dec. 13, 14, and 15 (Friday-Sunday) on Historic Fourth Avenue, between Eighth Street and University Boulevard. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to dusk each day and is free to the public. There will be more than 350 arts and crafts booths, more than 50 food vendors, two stages, local musicians and performers, and many other fun activities.

Public Comment Encouraged for Review of City Magistrate Applicants

Eight applicants are currently being interviewed to fill one vacant City Magistrate position in City Court. The City of Tucson Magistrates Merit Selection Commission is asking for public comment from those who are familiar with the applicants or have had direct experience with them.

All comments are confidential and disclosed to Commission members only. Public comments should include the basis for expressed opinions.

Enjoy Cookies with Santa

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department is hosting Cookies with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 21, 8-10 a.m., at Udall Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road. The cost is $5 per person. Children will enjoy breakfast, an art project, and a story and picture with Santa.

Call to Artists Extended for Roger Road Public Art Project

The City of Tucson is seeking an artist, artists, or an artist team to create public art in connection with enhancements on Roger Road from Oracle Road to Romero Road.

The budget for the project is $31,520 and the new deadline is Friday, Dec. 13. Submissions are accepted online only. Artists previously experienced working with roadway design teams are of particular interest.

As my staff and I were getting last week’s update ready to post, I heard the news of the death of Judith Blair. I was able to get a sentence or two up, but her work in our community deserves a lot more than that.

Judith was a Tucson transplant (a word I choose with good reason), coming here when her son Joseph played basketball for the Wildcats. She grew to love our community and stayed after Joseph became a professional player.

Downtown Links - Pre-Construction Traffic Alert 12/9

Downtown Links Constructors (DLC), under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, continue pre-construction field activities which are scheduled to continue through the end of December 2019. The traveling public will see equipment, work crews and short-term traffic control during this investigative phase of work which includes; surface, subsurface, geotechnical, environmental and survey verifications. The traveling public should anticipate the following traffic closures:

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Tomorrow

Safely dispose of paints, chemicals, oils, pesticides, and certain other items that are sitting unused in your shed or garage. The City of Tucson Eastside Service Center, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd., is open Saturday, Dec. 7, 8 a.m.-noon, for household hazardous waste (HHW) collection.

Drop-off is free for city residents. Please do not bring medical waste, dried paint, ammunition, explosives, or CRT monitors. Vehicles should enter north from Prudence Road.
