Unified Community Advisory Board Meeting This Week

The next quarterly meeting of the Unified Community Advisory Board (UCAB) is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, at 5:45 p.m. at the El Pueblo Neighborhood Center, 101 W. Irvington Road. UCAB hosts meetings regarding the Tucson International Airport Area EPA Superfund Site/Tucson Airport Remediation Project and the City of Tucson’s efforts and commitment to provide clean and safe water to the community.

Sidewalk Removal and Replacement at Sweetwater Wetlands Begins July 15

Removal and replacement of portions of the sidewalk at Sweetwater Wetlands begins Monday, July 15. The facility will remain open to the public during this time.

Visitors are asked to keep clear of the work area and use alternate routes to enjoy the wildlife and scenery in a safe manner. The project is scheduled to be completed by Friday, July 26, weather permitting. Questions about the facility should be emailed to

Reid Park Zoo's Summer Safari Saturday Nights Program Continues Tomorrow

Reid Park Zoo’s annual Summer Safari Saturday Nights program runs 6-8 p.m. every Saturday until Aug. 17. Enjoy the Zoo during cooler evening temperatures with added fun, including live music from local bands, games, inflatables, food and drink specials, face painting, glitter tattoos, animal encounters, zookeeper chats, and themed evenings.

2nd Saturdays Downtown Tomorrow

The next 2nd Saturdays Downtown takes place Saturday, July 13. Events during the day include Family Brain Boost and Art After Dark at Children's Museum Tucson, a meeting of the Tucson Poetry Society, and a business seminar at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library.

Evening events include live music at Mercado San Agustin and other locations. The Scott Avenue Stage features music from Chris Hall, the Kevin Pakulis Band, and Gertie and the T.O. Boyz. Some events are free, while some require tickets or admission fees.

City Recruiting Project Manager

The City of Tucson is hiring a project manager to work in its Information Technology department. A project manager coordinates and prioritizes project tasks, manages timelines, maintains project plans, and communicates status to clients, sponsors, and senior management. Work also includes preparing forecasts of needed funds, assisting in developing and implementing project budgets, and monitoring expenditures.

Tucson Delivers Better Streets Repaving Projects

The second set of roadway improvement projects associated with the voter-approved Proposition 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program are set to begin Monday, July 15, 2019.

The projects will include reconstructing and repaving Roger Road from Wilson Avenue to First Avenue, River Road from Oracle Road to First Avenue within the city limits, and Runway Drive from Gardner Lane to Prince Road.

Pima County Sheriff's Department and Banner Aetna Hosting Badges and Backpacks

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and Banner Aetna are hosting Badges and Backpacks on Saturday, July 13, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) Exhibit Halls, 260 S. Church Ave. There will be 2,000 free backpacks and school supplies distributed on a first-come, first-served basis for children who are present and enrolled in grades K-12.
