Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Underpass at Grant Road Improvement Project

The City of Tucson Transportation Department has started the pre-construction investigative phase of work which includes; surface, subsurface, geotechnical, environmental and survey verification field activities. The traveling public will see equipment, work crews and short-term travel restrictions during this phase of work.

On Monday, February 10 through Friday, February 14, the contractor will perform underground utility verification operations within the outside lanes of eastbound and westbound Grant Road.

Work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. 

City Manager Michael Ortega Wins State Award

Tucson City Manager Michael Ortega recently won the John J. DeBolske Professional Excellence Award from the Arizona City/County Management Association (ACMA).

The award was created in 1997 to recognize city/county managers who demonstrate the highest level of professional excellence in local government and who have made life contributions in serving the profession. The award recognizes Ortega’s strong leadership, professional network, mentoring, and integrity he brings to his job.

Sun Tran's ‘Ride With Respect’ Video Series is Online

To encourage a positive experience for passengers and operators, Sun Tran developed a bus riding etiquette campaign, called Ride with Respect. In the related video series “That’s How We Roll," local children's entertainer Mr. Nature covers riding-etiquette topics like moving over for seniors and disabled people, keeping the aisle clear, speaking at a low volume, using headphones, not drinking or eating on the bus, and being respectful to drivers and other passengers.

City Recruiting Street Maintenance Workers

The City of Tucson is hiring street maintenance workers for its Transportation Department. The street maintenance worker I position will maintain and repair streets, alleyways, sidewalks, shoulders, curbs, drainage ways and rights of way. The street maintenance worker II position will work with the Department of Corrections Inmate Program and operate specialized equipment in drainageways and along roadways.

Operation Freeze - February 3, 2020


Beginning at approximately 4 p.m. today, crews from the City of Tucson Transportation Department Streets Maintenance Division will initiate Operation Freeze in preparation of freezing temperatures forecasted for the next several nights. Operation Freeze is put into place to make sure City bridge decks are free of ice and safe for motorists to drive over.
