Fourth Avenue Launches Bonus Gift Card Program

The Historic Fourth Avenue Coalition (HFAC) and the Fourth Avenue Merchants Association (FAMA) are teaming together to offer a gift card program to help merchants in the area during these trying times.

The website stores went online at 6 a.m. today, April 20, to offer gift cards with an added $10 bonus when you spend $25. The gift cards are for specific merchants on Fourth Avenue. Some of those merchants already have sold out, but there are plenty of others left for purchase.

Report: Arizona Hospital Ventilators and Beds Adequate for Coronavirus Surge

New data suggests Arizona hospitals appear to have enough beds and ventilators to handle an anticipated surge in COVID-19 patients, according to a report in today's Arizona Daily Star. The information comes from the Arizona Department of Health Services and a medical researcher with the University of Arizona’s College of Public Health.

Sketching with Tucson Parks and Recreation

Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering virtual opportunities for the public to exercise, create, and learn new skills during the COVID-19 pandemic. Department Director Brent Dennis, also an artist, channeled his inner Bob Ross with a series of short social media videos, including "How to Sketch Trees and Landscapes."

Help Name the Baby Elephant at Reid Park Zoo

Reid Park Zoo’s elephant calf is more than a week old and ready for a name. Reid Park Zoo and the Arizona Daily Star are joining together to ask the community to vote in a poll to pick the calf's name.

The choices are Mapenzi (meaning beloved), Amani (meaning peace), and Zawadi (meaning gift). The names are all derived from Swahili. The names of the other elephants in the herd (Mabu, Semba, Lungile, Sundzu, and Nandi) also have ties to their native land in Africa. T
