The lightning-caused Bighorn Fire in the Coronado National Forest has grown to 118,370 acres, but is now 54 percent contained. A little more than 900 people are still assigned to the fire.

Tucson Parks and Recreation is taking appointments beginning today, July 1, for families to qualify for the Discount Program in anticipation of programs, memberships, and KIDCO afterschool beginning once the City reopens facilities. Applicants must bring all verification materials with them to the appointment.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey yesterday, June 29, issued an executive order that closes bars, nightclubs, gyms, movie theaters, water parks, and tubing until at least July 27. The order went into effect at 8 o'clock last night to help stem the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus cases in Arizona.
The order also delays the start of the next school year until at least Aug. 17. Ducey also banned gatherings of more than 50 people, but churches and political rallies are exempt.

In observance of Independence Day, Sun Tran, Sun Van, and the Sun Link streetcar will operate on a Sunday schedule on Saturday, July 4. Sun Link will end service at 8 p.m. Sun Express and Sun Shuttle will not be in operation, with the exception of Sun Shuttle ADA Dial-a-Ride service.

As of this morning, June 29, there are now 7,568 reports of COVID-19 cases in Pima County and 74,533 in Arizona. Those numbers include cases where people have recovered, as state health officials do not track recoveries. There have now been 1,588 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona.
Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website that includes information for businesses, residents, and even activities for kids. The site is updated as information continues to evolve.

The lightning-caused Bighorn Fire in the Coronado National Forest has grown to 107,099 acres (168 square miles) and is 45 percent contained.
Today's firefighting efforts are expected to be challenging since there's a Red Flag Warning in effect, with wind speeds of up to 30 mph possible. There are nearly 1,100 people assigned to the fire.

There are a lot of things to talk about this week, and I want to get to as much of it as possible. I am really concerned about our local hospital capacity. Please stay home as much as possible, always wear a mask & wash your hands often. Please support our neighbors whose homes are in danger of burning down in the Bighorn wildfire.
