Dedication Ceremony New Pedestrian Crossing At Sunnyside High School

Vice-Mayor Richard Fimbres and the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will unveil a new pedestrian crossing on Bilby Road, just west of Campbell Avenue at Sunnyside High School on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. The ribbon-cutting event will take place at 11 a.m. at the new crosswalk on Bilby Road next to Sunnyside High School. 

The new safety device is a pedestrian activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon intended to increase the visibility of uncontrolled marked crosswalks.

2nd Saturdays Downtown This Weekend

The next 2nd Saturdays Downtown takes place tomorrow, Jan. 12. Events during the day include Living History Days and the Zoppé Family Circus at Mercado San Agustin, story readings at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, and more.

Evening events include Tucson Roadrunners hockey at the Tucson Arena, the Tucson Jazz Festival at the Fox Tucson Theatre, and Retro Game Show Night at Hotel Congress. Some events are free, while others require tickets or admission fees.

Grammy Award Winner Bobby McFerrin to Perform at Tucson Jazz Festival This Month

The Fifth Annual HSL Properties Tucson Jazz Festival, which will run between Jan. 11-21, will feature 10-time Grammy Award winner Bobby McFerrin at the Fox Tucson Theatre on Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. His "Don't Worry, Be Happy" song was a No. 1 U.S. pop hit in 1988 and won Song of the Year honors at the 1989 Grammy Awards.

Electronics Collection This Weekend

Tucson Clean & Beautiful hosts an electronics collection for residents to bring their working and non-working electronic items. The event takes place tomorrow, Jan. 12, 8-11 a.m., in the parking lot of Texas Roadhouse, 968 W. Irvington Road.

Items to be collected include Christmas lights, computers, laptops, monitors, printers, telephones, calculators, microwaves, and more. A roll off will be available for non-working cathode ray televisions. No large appliances will be accepted.

Tucson Police to Host Women in Law Enforcement Open House

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) will host a Women in Law Enforcement Open House on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Center, 10001 S. Wilmot Road. Interested applicants can get information about a career in law enforcement, the application process, and the basic academy training that provides certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
