The Thanksgiving Day holiday will be observed on Thursday, Nov. 28. Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Thursday. All City of Tucson residential and commercial customers with regular collection on Thursday and Friday will have their trash and recycling service delayed by one day.

Get a jump on your holiday shopping at the Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair in Reid Park, 920 S. Concert Place, on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. This free event has become a tradition for many holiday shoppers for more than 30 years.

Extra cooking for the upcoming holidays means that it’s time to help protect your sewer pipes and the system in general. The Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) reminds you that pouring cooking oil and grease down pipes can clog and damage sewer lines.
Please take these items to Pima County’s Agua Nueva Water Reclamation Facility, 2947 W. Calle Agua Nueva, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. The oils and grease can be recycled into biodiesel, a cleaner-burning fuel.

A new HAWK pedestrian crossing signal will be installed at the intersection of 22nd Street and Belvedere Avenue. Beginning Monday, Dec. 2, crews will work from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on weekdays, and two lanes of travel will be maintained in each direction on 22nd Street.
Expect delays when driving in this work area and obey all traffic control signs. The project is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of January, barring changes due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Tucson Medical Center (TMC), the Tucson Police Department (TPD), and Safe Kids Pima County are partnering to give families in need a car seat appropriate for a child's age and weight. The event takes place at the TPD Rillito Substation, 1310 W. Miracle Mile on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The City of Tucson is hiring an engineering manager to work in its Transportation Department. The position will manage and coordinate several programs, including the Right-of-Way Permit & Code Section, the Utility Coordination & Technical Review Section, and the City's MS4 Permit and Stormwater/Floodplain Administration. The manager also supervises personnel and directs the operations of the engineering section.

Our six-month “pilot program” with e-scooters began in September, and there is already a move to end it early.
Count me among those who’d like the program to continue.
We don’t see e-scooters much on the road here in Ward 2. The layout of our neighborhoods and the lack of clear pedestrian centers means that they aren’t as practical as they are in central Tucson.

With the rain we've been having this week, you may have noticed some storm-related issues affecting traffic. Is there a pothole you'd like to see filled? Is a street sign missing? Is a tree limb hanging too close over a roadway or sidewalk?

Since introducing the program in September 2011, Tucson Water has provided more than 2,500 rainwater harvesting rebates to its customers. The capture, diversion, and storage of rainwater has offset more than 52.8 million gallons of water that would have been used for irrigation. This reduces dependence and money spent on drinking water.

The Public Works building, 201 N. Stone Ave., will be open Friday, Nov. 29, but will have limited staff and services available the day after Thanksgiving. The Tucson Fire Department counter on the first floor of Planning and Development Services will be closed on that day.
Pima County public parking facilities also will be closed next Friday. However, you can conduct plenty of business online at the City's Planning and Development Service Department's website.

A 35-member Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) wants resident input on guiding principles for the development of a new 20-year regional transportation plan. The CAC will consider the value of regional benefits of proposed projects versus the estimated construction costs to meet the budget.

On Sunday, November 24, 2019, the eastbound lanes of Congress Street from the I-10 frontage road to Granada Avenue will be closed due to heavy equipment utilization.
The work hours for this one-day project are from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming closure. The traveling public can expect delays when traveling near the work area.
