Parents Night Out This Week

Enjoy three hours of free time on Friday, April 12, 4:30-7:45 p.m., while your kids have organized activities with Tucson Parks and Recreation. The event will be held at Udall Recreation Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road.

The cost per child (ages 5-11 only) is $4. The kids will play supervised games and watch the movie FernGully: The Last Rainforest. Pizza, popcorn, and drinks will be served during the movie and are included in the fee.

City Hiring System Operators for Water Department

The City of Tucson is recruiting water system operators to join the Tucson Water department. The positions are responsible for the central control operations of the potable and reclaimed water distribution systems. Operators use SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) to operate, monitor, and control water treatment facilities, distribution systems, and related equipment.

Last week, County School Superintendent Dustin Williams announced an initiative to combat vaping among Southern Arizona teens. The campaign, called Real Deal on Vaping, will use social media to help combat peer pressure. A recent survey said that 47% of area teens have tried vaping.

Cyclovia Tucson This Weekend

Cyclovia Tucson takes place on Sunday, April 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Start the day at the new Banner—University Medicine hospital tower with a tour of the new lobby, a ballet folklórico performance, mariachis, the Tucson Roadrunners hockey team, a zip line, food trucks, and more. Parking is available at the Diamond Children’s garage, 1625 N. Campbell Ave.

City Recruiting Information Systems Analyst

The City of Tucson is seeking an Information Technology (IT) systems analyst to provide ongoing maintenance and support for all departments within the City organization, including Fire, Police, Planning and Development Services, and others. This includes providing ongoing maintenance and support for enterprise applications as well as technical participation in new project initiatives.

Traffic and Access Alert: Tucson Folk Festival

Downtown Tucson will host the 34th Annual Tucson Folk Festival this weekend from Saturday, April 6, 2019 to Sunday, April 7, 2019. Below is a list of road closures that will be in place for the event. Please note due to current ADA ramp and sidewalk improvement work that is ongoing, restrictions for pedestrian and bicycle access at Northwest Alameda and Stone as well as Northeast Alameda and Church will be in place.

Friday, April 5, 2019 – Beginning at 7 a.m. Church Avenue between Alameda Street and Pennington Street will be closed through Sunday night.

Traffic Alert: Speedway Boulevard and Greasewood Road Traffic Signal

Starting tomorrow, April 4, the traffic signals at the Speedway Boulevard and Greasewood Road intersection will not be in operation. Work crews are replacing underground conduit and wiring at the intersection.

The work will begin at 9 a.m. and is anticipated to be completed by 4 p.m. the same day. Police officers will direct travel through the intersection during the work, and motorists should expect delays in the area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel in the area.

City Court Judge Michael Pollard Wins Citizen of the Year Award

The Arizona Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers recently presented Tucson City Court Judge Michael Pollard with the Citizen of the Year award. The ceremony was last Friday, March 29, at the association's Celebration of Social Work Month and Awards Luncheon.

Judge Pollard was recognized for his work in the Regional Municipalities Veterans Treatment Court (RMVTC) and Homeless Court.
