Sun Tran and City of Tucson Receive $221,100 Grant

FTA announces Human Trafficking and Public Safety Initiative recipients

The City of Tucson (COT) and Sun Tran were awarded $221,100 from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Human Trafficking Awareness and Public Safety Initiative. The grant will allow funding for the COT and Sun Tran to implement solutions to reduce human trafficking, protect transit operators from the risk of assault, and reduce crime on public transit vehicles.

The commission that oversees the parks bond program made an important decision on Monday night for those of you that play either tennis or pickleball.

First, I want to give you a bit of background. In 2018, you and your neighbors passed Proposition 407, which authorized the sale of $225 million of bonds to fund parks and trail projects throughout the city. $5.5 million of that is set to be spent at Ft. Lowell, while $13.9 million will be spent at Udall Park.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Tomorrow

Safely dispose of paints, chemicals, oils, pesticides, and certain other items that are sitting unused in your shed or garage. The City of Tucson Eastside Service Center, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd., is open Saturday, Feb. 1, 8 a.m.-noon, for household hazardous waste collection. Drop-off is free for city residents.

Please do not bring medical waste, dried paint, ammunition, explosives, or CRT monitors. Vehicles should enter north from Prudence Road.

Punt, Pass, and Kick Contest Tomorrow

Test your athletic skills this weekend and have fun in the park. The Punt, Pass, and Kick Contest will be held tomorrow, Feb. 1, 10 a.m.-noon, at Jacinto Park, 2600 N. 15th Ave.

Walmart gift cards will be distributed for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each age group. The three age groups are elementary school, middle school, and high school. There'll be free food from Taqueria Juanitos, face painting, and other activities.

Sun Tran to Host Job Fair

A job fair to learn about current transit career opportunities in Tucson will be hosted by Sun Tran on Saturday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at its administrative office at 3920 N. Sun Tran Blvd. Sun Tran is hiring drivers, mechanics, a payroll technician, and a senior accounting analyst.

Job seekers should bring their identification and resume. Sun Tran operates 40 fixed routes in the Tucson metropolitan area. For more information, call (520) 206-8818.
