The new Tucson Birding Trail Map is now available. The free map shows the 45 best locations in and around Tucson for finding wild birds. The sites include a range of mountain, desert, and wetland locations, each with its own variety of species.
The map is available online and at a variety of Tucson Audubon and Tucson Parks and Recreation department locations.

The City of Tucson is seeking public comments on possible increases to transit fares and route changes. Due to Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirements, Title VI policies must be reviewed every three years, and transit service changes are proposed to reduce the City of Tucson’s General Fund contribution to transit.

The 31st annual Tucson Folk Festival will be held tomorrow and Sunday in Downtown Tucson. The free event spans five stages and features more than 120 performers, including headliners John McCutcheon, Nancy McCallion and The Scarlet Lettermen, and special guests James Reams & The Barnstormers.

Tomorrow is the Children's Day Festival/Día del Niño at Children's Museum Tucson, 220 S. 6th Ave. The 10 a.m.-2 p.m. event is sponsored by Arizona Bilingual Newspaper and others, and admission to the museum will be free.
There will be jumping castles, gifts, music, food, and more.

The Tucson Parks and Recreation department is recruiting recreation workers to help with summer KIDCO programs for children. A recreation worker provides service to the patrons of the City's Parks and Recreation facilities. The seasonal position assists in planning activities for children ages 5 to 12, prepares facilities for scheduled functions, and supervises youth activity participants.

Ward 5 Tucson City Council Member Richard Fimbres, Housing and Community Development, and Tucson Parks and Recreation invite you to celebrate park improvements at Pueblo Gardens Park.
The project provided site and playground improvements focused on access for the disabled. Improvements included resurfacing two existing parking lots with ADA spaces, sidewalks throughout the site for access to various amenities, and new, accessible drinking fountains, picnic tables, and an accessible playground with a shade canopy.

A full panel of judges will reconsider a challenge to Tucson's system of elections after a three-member panel last year ruled the hybrid of ward-only primaries and citywide general elections is unconstitutional. The City asked the court to reconsider the case with a panel of 11 judges, and that request was approved yesterday. The larger panel of judges will rehear the case, reviewing the same briefs as the smaller panel. They also will hear oral arguments the week of June 20 in San Francisco.

Non-emergency calls to 911 are straining the system, and the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) recently launched a new program to divert those calls elsewhere, saving taxpayer dollars. Tucson Collaborative Community Care (TC3) is uniting the health care and social service communities to help those who frequently call the emergency line to ask for help with things like diabetes symptoms, medications, helping people get up and down, the need for social services, and more.

Work on the Tanque Verde Road, Wilmot Road, Pima Street Intersection Improvement Project will force two evening/overnight closures of Pima Street at Tanque Verde Road for necessary water line work in the roadway. Work hours will be 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and detours will be provided during the closures tonight and tomorrow night.
Clear Contracting, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will perform the work. The project is funded by the Regional Transportation Authority.

Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) will offer free pet adoptions tomorrow through Sunday on all pets older than six months at its shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, and its four off-site PetSmart adoption centers. The event is to celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on Saturday.

Rio Nuevo will spend $3.2 million to get the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) ready for a pro hockey team it hopes to attract before the season starts in October. The board of the downtown improvement district voted yesterday to invest the money to get the TCC up to the standards of the American Hockey League (AHL).

El Rio Community Health Center held the official ribbon cutting yesterday for its headquarters in the historic Manning House it has been renovating for 18 months, while the center also celebrates completion of a nearby three-story building. More than 230 employees have been moving to the new downtown campus over the past two months.
The project cost a little more than $11 million, which includes the initial purchase price.
