Weekend Southbound Travel Lane Closure
The southbound curb travel lane on Alvernon Way is closed to traffic from Pima Street to Speedway Boulevard throughout the weekend. Due to equipment malfunction, only half of the travel lane was milled leaving an uneven asphalt surface. For the safety of the traveling public, the lane will be closed until mid-morning Monday, March 14, 2016. Residential and business access will be maintained during the weekend closure. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving in the area.
The Mayor and Tucson City Council this week voted to advance the process for World View Enterprises to receive the City's Primary Jobs Incentive that provides 100 percent credit of construction taxes to be used for job training.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Arizona fell three-tenths of a point in January, to 5.6 percent, when compared to the same period last year. The Arizona Department of Administration reports there were 83,200 more people working in the private sector in January than a year earlier. That is a 3.8 percent annual increase.
Retail trade employment is up 4 percent year over year, with a 5.5 percent boost in people working in the financial sector, from selling insurance to mortgages. Bars and restaurants employed 8,300 more people in January than they did the prior year.
