A public visitation and memorial service will be held this week for Tucson Police Department (TPD) Officer Isaac Rosario, 41, who died in an off-duty motor vehicle accident Aug. 1 in Glendale. Rosario's 6-year-old daughter was severely injured in that crash.
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) invite the public to attend an open house tomorrow to discuss Broadway Improvements from Camino Seco to Houghton Road. The meeting will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. at Gridley Middle School, 350 S. Harrison Road.
Classically-trained violinist Lindsey Stirling from Gilbert will perform Wednesday night at 7:30 at the Tucson Music Hall. The Aug. 19 meeting of the City of Tucson's Planning Commission has been moved to Sept. 16. Two public hearings are scheduled during that meeting - the Flexible Lot Design (FLD) draft text amendment and the Urban Agriculture draft text amendment. The citizen-comprised Planning Commission advises the Tucson City Council and staff on plans, policies, and standards affecting land use and development.
The Plannning Commission public hearing for urban agriculture will be held on Wednesday, September 16th at 6PM, 255 W.

The Mayor and Tucson City Council Wednesday approved a site specific sales tax incentive for a second hotel along the Sun Link streetcar route. The property at the southeast corner of Tyndall Avenue and East Second Street will be developed into a Marriott hotel and feature a public plaza and a private club for University of Arizona faculty and alumni.
Visit Downtown Tucson tomorrow and enjoy live music, a movie, street performers, restaurants, street vendors, and gallery shows during 2nd Saturdays Downtown. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the main stage at Scott Avenue and Congress Street features musical performances. You can use the Sun Link streetcar to move easily through the downtown area.
Tomorrow's the day mermaids, pirates, jellyfish, and other sea creatures will be washed ashore on downtown's pop-up beach on the MLK Lot at North Fifth Avenue at East Congress Street, and at Fourth Avenue’s Haggerty Plaza, 316 N. Fourth Ave. The "Return of the Mermaids" event begins with a mermaid arts market at 11 a.m. at 50 N. Ride the Sun Link streetcar and enjoy the KXCI Presents: Sun Link Summer in the City Concert Series, a live concert inside a streetcar. The series features concerts through the end of the month. The Tucson City Council last night approved a land development incentive package for shuttered schools in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD). The incentives are designed to fast-track development by offering deferred building permit fees and expedited reviews of building plans. Eight schools remain closed and would qualify for the incentives.
Comcast officially signed the lease on the former American Home Furnishings building near Tucson Mall to house the media company's new call center, IT, and Spanish-language social media operations. The company says it plans to add 1,125 jobs in May. Renovation of the facility is expected to start immediately.
