Ride Sun Tran to Rodeo and Parade

Ride Sun Tran to La Fiesta de Los Vaqueros Tucson Rodeo this Saturday through Feb. 28. Sun Tran has regularly scheduled bus service to the Laos Transit Center, which is one block from the rodeo grounds and parade route.

The annual rodeo parade will take place next Thursday at 9 a.m. Approximately 200 non-motorized floats will be on display along the 1.5-mile parade route that starts at Park Avenue and Ajo Way.

Tucson Firefighter Band Finishes 2nd in National Competition

Four current and retired firefighters from the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) took 2nd place in online voting in the band competition for the national Fire Department Instructor's Conference (FDIC). Known as The Turnouts, the TFD band fell 200 votes shy of winning the top honor and the chance to perform at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis during the FDIC national convention in April.

Ward 5 Councilmember Richard Fimbres is proud to have presented the 2016 City of Tucson, Ward 5 Safety Calendar to Tucson and Pima County’s children and adults.  This project showcases both the artistic talents of our youth and the important messages that their drawings represent.

 

Tucson to Get Direct Flight to Guaymas This Summer

A domestic airline will fly a 50-seat jet four times a week between Tucson and Guaymas, as well as Phoenix and Guaymas. The round-trip flights will cost less than $400, and there will be no charge for the first checked bag, and drinks and snacks will be free.

“The announcement of this route opens a new chapter in Tucson economic development history,” said Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild. “It is fitting that this first route links one of Tucson’s favorite travel destinations to Sonorans’ favorite retail shopping destination."

Pennington Street Realignment at Toole Avenue

On Monday, February 22, 2016, Day's Excavating will begin work on the realignment of Pennington Street at Toole Avenue.  Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work. There will also be occasional night work. Pennington Street will be closed at Toole Avenue. At least one travel lane on Toole Avenue will be open in each direction at all times during the project. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times; the sidewalk on at least one side of Toole will remain open. The project is scheduled to be complete mid-May.

Settlement Agreement Reached for Streetcar Manufacturing Delay

Tucson will collect about $1.7 million in liquidated damages from the company that was late in delivering streetcars, delaying Tucson's opening of the transit line. Vigor Works, formerly known as Oregon Iron Works, was the parent company of now-closed United Streetcar, which built Tucson's eight streetcars. The first vehicle was delivered nearly a year late.

Tucson Utility Billing Will be Offline Sunday Through Tuesday Morning

Due to extended maintenance, online Tucson Utility Billing from Tucson Water will not be available from 6 a.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Customers will not be able to pay bills, or access or create accounts during that time.

Fort Lowell Day Celebration Tomorrow

Experience the Arizona frontier life through living history, from the 1800s military Fort Lowell Post to the diverse village settlement of El Fuerte. Highlights include cavalry drills, 19th century Western medical skills and treatments and a surgical demonstration (amputation), vintage baseball, historic San Pedro Chapel guided tours, children's activities, a regimental band, and mariachi and cowboy music concerts.
