Country Club Road - Speedway Boulevard to Aviation Parkway Resurfacing Project

On Monday, July 20, 2015, crews from Sunland Asphalt, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to improve the pavement conditions on Country Club Road from Speedway Boulevard to Aviation Parkway.

 

Crews will begin the project with the lowering of manhole covers and water valve covers. Lowering the utility covers is scheduled to be complete by Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Wait Lists Open for Public Housing Programs

The City's Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is accepting wait list applications for public housing programs, including the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. All applications must be completed online through the application portal and will be accepted until further notice. Public notice is provided in English and Spanish and information on the City's website can be translated into multiple languages.

Deadline Approaching to Share Your Ideas About Our Regional Transit Future

The Pima Association of Governments (PAG) is inviting the public to identify and discuss transit priorities to guide regional efforts in transit planning and investments. Input will help guide development of a regional transit vision for PAG's 2045 Regional Transportation Plan and future regional planning processes. You can submit your opinions online through tomorrow.
 

Stay Cool with Frozen at Movies in the Park Program Tomorrow

Are you looking for some family-friendly entertainment on Friday nights over the summer? Movies in the Park, a Tucson summer staple since 2003, returns Friday to Reid Park with a free showing of Frozen at dusk. Residents are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy a free movie every other Friday at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, 900 S. Randolph Way. Pre-movie events begin at 5:30 p.m. with live music, jumping castles, balloon animals, and arts and crafts exhibits.

Voters to Decide the Fate of Red Light Cameras

The City Clerk and Pima County Recorder have certified enough valid signatures to send to November's ballot an initiative to ban red light cameras in Tucson city limits. The group Tucson Traffic Justice last month submitted petitions with more than 40,000 signatures. A random sampling of more than 2,000 petitions signatures showed there are enough legitimate signatures to project about 27,000 of the submitted signatures are valid. The required amount to get on the ballot is 12,730.

Dancing with the Stars Tour Live in Tucson Tomorrow

Dancing with the Stars Live! is coming to the Tucson Convention Center's (TCC) Music Hall tomorrow night. Dancing with the Stars All-Stars champion Melissa Rycroft will host the stage show, featuring pro dancers Witney Carson, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Artem Chigvintsev, Peta Murgatroyd, Emma Slater, and troupe dancers Alan Bersten, Brittany Cherry, Sasha Farber and Jenna Johnson. The dancers will perform in a 90-minute live show.

City of Tucson to Hold Workshops on License and Sales Tax Reporting

Learn your rights and responsibilities for Transaction Privilege (sales) Taxation by attending a Tax and License Workshop sponsored by the City of Tucson Finance Department. Questions will be answered, and written materials will be available. Samples of sales tax records, worksheets, and monthly returns will be explained. You should bring a calculator and a pencil. A workshop for retail and contracting questions will be held tomorrow, 10:30 a.m.-noon, at the Westside Police Service Center, 1310 W. Miracle Mile. Another workshop will be held Thursday, July 30, at the same time and location.

Professional Bull Riders Coming to TCC

The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) will be competing at the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) Oct. 2-3 as part of the elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) tour. Five PBR world champions are scheduled to compete in Tucson, including Mike Lee (2004), Guilherme Marchi (2008), Renato Nunes (2010), J.B. Mauney (2013), and three-time World Champion Silvano Alves (2011, 2012, 2014). The tour resumes Aug. 7-8 in Biloxi, Mississippi, kicking off the second half of the season.

Task Force Members Needed for Residential Parking Permit Program (Deadline Extended)

If you'd like to play a role in determining the future of Tucson's Residential Parking Permit Program, you can apply to be a task force member. The application deadline is Thursday at 5 p.m. Task force members will review the current permit program, in light of significant changes to parking usage and needs in certain areas, and determine whether modifications are needed to better serve the community. The recommendations and input made by the 20-member task force will be submitted to the City of Tucson Park Tucson Commission.
