Monday is the last day to vote for the four current and retired firefighters from the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) who hope to compete against other firefighters across the country for an opportunity to perform at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis during the Fire Department Instructor Conference in April.
Known as The Turnouts, the TFD band is encouraging people to watch its video (below) and cast a vote online.
CENTURY LINK UTILITY RELOCATION WORK
FOR DOWNTOWN LINKS PHASE III PROJECT
As part of the City of Tucson Department of Transportation's Downtown Links Phase III project, Century Link is continuing work to relocate their existing facilities located within the project limits.
For the fifth consecutive year, the City of Tucson is providing a free shuttle service for visitors to the Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase. The GemRide shuttle system connects 41 shows from 33 stops on four connected routes. GemRide service runs daily, Jan. 30-Feb. 14, from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. (limited service this Friday only). Service times vary depending on shuttle route.
If you're visiting Tucson for the gem show, the Sun Link streetcar is a good way to get around downtown, and there are many fare options available to ride the streetcar. Cash is not accepted on the car, but you can use it at machines at the stops to buy a $4 one-day pass. In addition, you can buy SunGO passes online and at regular Sun Tran merchants or use the Go Tucson app to pay your fare.
A plank bridge along the Aviation Bikeway has been repaired with new bridge decking. For several years, bicyclists have advocated for improvements to the wooden bridge near Freedom Park.
Thanks to bridge-specific funding from the Regional Transportation Authority, bicyclists and pedestrians using this popular route will have smoother trips. The Aviation Bikeway is a paved, off-road bike path that runs from Ironhorse Park to the intersection of Escalante and Kolb Roads.
The musical group The Temptations focused on social change, politics, and love. Lead singer Dennis Edwards will discuss the group's music during the Sunday Evening Forum this weekend at the Fox Tucson Theatre. The free forum starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are required and can be picked up starting at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Box Office.

Corona Road – Tucson Boulevard to Country Club Road
Country Club Road – Los Reales Road to Drexel Road
On Thursday, January 28, 2016, crews from Sunland Asphalt, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin milling (removing asphalt) and repaving Corona Road from Tucson Boulevard to Country Club Road. Crews will work at night Monday through Friday, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. During this work at least one travel lane in each direction will be maintained.
The City of Tucson is hosting the last of three public meetings this month to allow the community and business leaders to discuss a proposal to require all businesses in city limits to offer sick time to their employees.
The Earned Sick and Safe Time meeting runs tomorrow from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Ward 2 Council Office, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd.

The City of Tucson, in partnership with the Pima Association of Governments (PAG), is conducting a survey of passengers on all Sun Tran, Sun Express, Sun Shuttle, and Sun Link routes in the region. The survey, which began this month and lasts until March, will help guide transit planning. Interviewers with tablet computers will ask randomly-selected passengers about how they use transit.
ZoomTucson is an interactive mapping site that allows citizens to find government information and services, such as political representatives, trash and recycling collection schedules, zoning, and school boundaries. ZoomTucson's clean and simple map interface allows users to search by an address or click on a location to display a wealth of information. It's also good for people interested in moving to Tucson.
