Through his two TV shows and late-night TV talk show appearances, Jack Hanna is a familiar name among wildlife lovers and the zoo community. The Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo is coming to Tucson in January for "Jack Hanna's Into the Wild Live," presented in partnership with Reid Park Zoo. Tickets for the Jan. 7 show at the Fox Theatre are available online.
Tucson Water offers free toilets to qualifying low-to-moderate-income households. The rebate program offers free replacement of older toilets that consume 3.5 or more gallons per flush. Toilets qualifying for replacement typically are manufactured before 1991. The date of manufacture is generally stamped inside the tank or lid of the toilet.
On Monday, September 21, 2015, crews from Sunland Asphalt, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin decorative stamped (brick pattern) asphalt work on Grande Avenue from Speedway Boulevard Congress Street.
Grande Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Congress Street to St. Mary’s Road on Monday, September 21, 2015 beginning at 6 p.m. and will reopen to through traffic at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. Access to residential streets along Grande Avenue will be allowed.
In 2007, Tucson’s Mayor and Council approved a program to help cut down the number of auto accidents, injuries and fatalities at the City’s eight most dangerous intersections.
This program had photo cameras placed at these intersections to deal with speed and running red lights.
The Mayor and Council received updates on the program, which showed a reduction of accidents, injuries and fatalities. In July, I had requested that the Mayor and Council receive a report on this program.

The Citizen Police Advisory Review Board (CPARB) is seeking applications to fill four advisory, non-voting positions for a period not to exceed two years. Formed by the Mayor and City Council in March 1997, CPARB helps promote a citizen/police partnership and reviews and comments on police investigation of citizen complaints. You must be a resident of the City of Tucson to serve on the panel.
The deadline to apply is Nov. 5.
A fog seal program starts next week at a couple of locations. Starting Monday, crews from Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin fog sealing Fort Lowell Road from Oracle Road to Campbell Avenue. The following week, crews will work on Campbell Avenue from Benson Highway to Valencia Road. To minimize disruptions to motorists, the work will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with at least one lane open in both directions.
Applications are available for artists who wish to participate in the Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair, Nov. 28-29. The event has been held for more than two decades, attracting vendors from all over the Southwest. The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking artists, crafters, photographers, painters, potters, jewelers, and more to sell their original artwork. All items must be handmade and are subject to approval.

Sun Tran and Teamsters Local 104 finalized a new contract last night, after union members voted to ratify the agreement reached early yesterday. Regular passenger service resumed this morning. Sun Tran passengers with an active 30-Day Pass, 30-Day Express Pass, or 30-Day Economy Pass on a SunGO Card or SunGO ID & Card during the work stoppage automatically will receive 42 days on the pass to replace the days lost during the strike, but the extra days could take a few weeks to load.
