The City of Tucson will observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, 2015. Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday. All City of Tucson residential and commercial customers will have their trash and recycling service delayed by one day. The Los Reales Landfill will be closed Monday, September 7th.
With more resources available, limited weekday bus service on Routes 6 and 7 will be offered starting tomorrow. Route 6 serves the Tohono Transit Center to downtown via Euclid and North 1st Avenue. Route 7 serves 22nd Street from Harrison to downtown. During Sun Tran’s work stoppage, limited weekday service is being offered from approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on several routes. Limited Saturday service is offered on Routes 8, 16, and 18, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
University of Arizona football fans can ride the Sun Link streetcar to UA football games. Prior to Thursday's season opener against the University of Texas at San Antonio at 7 p.m., fans can experience the dining, entertainment, and retail opportunities at Main Gate Square, Fourth Avenue, Downtown Tucson, and the Mercado District, and then board the streetcar to the UA from any one of the 23 stops along the 3.9-mile route. Once on campus, Arizona Stadium is a short walk from the Second Street and Cherry Avenue stop.
This month marks the 12th annual National Preparedness Month from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As part of the month, Tucson officials are urging you to be prepared for an emergency, such as a multi-day power outage or an interruption in utilities. Be Prepared Tucson advises all residents to create a 72-hour emergency kit. Each member of your family, including pets, should have a kit.
Members of the military, police, fire, and first responders will be joining their families for the 9/11 Memorial Tower Challenge on Sept. 11 at 6:30 a.m. at Arizona Stadium. They will climb 2,071 steps, which was the height of the World Trade Center's Twin Towers that were destroyed by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001.
The challenge is to honor the first responders who lost their lives on 9/11 and the military that serves our country. All proceeds raised by the participants will support the 100 Club of Arizona and the Tucson Fisher House.

The industrial market in Tucson is getting new attention from distribution companies. New construction and expansion is leaving the vacancy rate at about 10 percent for industrial space. OnTrac, a regional logistics company, is expected to announce plans this week to lease more than 56,000 square feet at Rockefeller Group Distribution Center, south of Valencia and Palo Verde roads.
