The City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) are celebrating the completion of the Kino Parkway – 22nd Street Intersection Improvement Project on Friday, October 2, at 9 a.m. at the southwest corner of Kino Parkway and 22nd Street.

Understanding the November 2015 Ballot Propositions: Vote an Informed Choice
Tucson Residents for Responsive Government is sponsoring a series of educational forums to help the public understand the process by which the Charter Changes (Props 403 & 404), Salary Recommendation (Prop 405) and Bond Proposals (Props 425-431) were placed on the November ballot and what they mean to you as a citizen and resident. Presenters will include members of the Citizen Committees who worked to get these issues on the November ballot.

Teams from the Mexican Pacific League will be returning to Tucson Oct. 1-4 for the fifth annual Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta, presented by Cox Communications. This year, the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Yaquis de Obregon, Aguilas de Mexicali, and the Cañeros de Los Mochis will face off at the City's Hi Corbett Field.

The 90-foot-tall El Con Water Tower has a fresh coat of paint and exterior repairs. The $70,000 project, which spanned about three months, included repairing rotted and broken wooden doors, patching stucco, removing water stains, replacing missing roof tiles, and more. The repairs were funded through a 2013 Housing and Urban Development Department Community Development Block Grant for historic preservation activities.

Money magazine ranks Tucson No. 4 on the list of its top five Best Cities for Millenials survey. The list focuses on places where job growth is projected to be above average; food, rent, and other necessities are relatively affordable; and there are high concentrations of grocery stores, pharmacies, laundromats, and other amenities.

ZOOcson 2015 is coming to Reid Park Zoo on Oct. 19, 6-9 p.m. More than 800 attendees will take part in the event benefiting the Zoo's exhibits, education programs, conservation efforts and capital projects. Approximately 25 of Tucson’s restaurants provide small-plate tastings at stations throughout the Zoo. Attendees participate in silent and live auctions, which include items ranging from power tools, vacation getaways, and unique Zoo experiences. There also will be live music.

Several events are scheduled this week to recognize Modernism Week in Tucson. Tour the Modernism architecture of the "Sunshine Mile" this Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit homes from the 1950s on Broadway Boulevard, between Euclid and Country Club. The City of Tucson is offering the business community a Tax Amnesty Program. This rare opportunity allows Tucson business owners to submit delinquent sales tax or license fees without penalty and reduced interest due on delinquent balances. This also is an opportunity for unlicensed Tucson businesses to get licensed without penalty.
The amnesty period will run through Oct. 30. During the last Tax Amnesty Program in 2009, 598 businesses participated.

The Tucson Parks and Recreation department will hold more community-wide open houses this week to gather public input on how it can best deliver recreation and leisure opportunities. The draft five-year master plan anticipates future needs and outlines the actions necessary to deliver high-quality recreation facilities, programs, and services to the Tucson area.

Zookeepers have selected two names, Titus and Toliver, for Reid Park Zoo's male tapir calf. Vote at this link, and for every vote received (up to 3,000), the Zoo will donate $1 to a project that protects tapirs in the wild. Voting ends at midnight this Thursday. The City of Tucson Environmental Services department is seeking a Public Information Intern to help with customer communication efforts via its website and social media. The intern will be instrumental in coordinating social media efforts by researching and planning communication strategies with input from community outreach activities. This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent basis.

The Mayor and Tucson City Council yesterday approved an agreement with Rio Nuevo that will pave the way for a downtown hotel project by relocating the Greyhound station to an as-yet-unknown site. The agreement lets Rio Nuevo take over as landlord of the temporary Greyhound bus station, which currently sits on the site of the proposed hotel development.

While most of the attention this week is focused on today's Bear Down Friday and the University of Arizona Wildcats football game against UCLA tomorrow, preceded by ESPN's College Game day, there is another sport in town this weekend. Arizona Wildcats Hockey opens its season against NAU at the Tucson Convention Center (TCC).
