Final Paving at Kolb and Valencia Intersection Set to Begin This Weekend

Final paving operations are scheduled at the intersection of Valencia Road and Kolb Road beginning Sunday, June 30, at 7 p.m. through Monday, July 1, at approximately 6 a.m. During that time, there will be limited access through the intersection.

One lane of travel will be maintained in each direction. As paving equipment moves through the intersection, motorists could experience major delays.

Tucson and Pima IDA Housing-Assistance Programs Help Fund Homeless Programs in Pima County

The Tucson and Pima County Industrial Development Authorities (IDAs), together with their longtime partners in the Tucson Pathways to Purchase Program, have contributed more than $5 million to the Tucson/Pima County Rapid Rehousing Program. The program is a collaboration of the Arizona Department of Housing and the IDAs to help individuals and families in Pima County who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Community Food Bank Looking for Summer Volunteers

The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona needs volunteers to help pack food bags this summer. The hours are from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Individuals and groups are welcome. Volunteers need to be age 16 and older. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes.

Reid Park Zoo's Summer Safari Saturday Nights Program Continues This Weekend

Reid Park Zoo’s annual Summer Safari Saturday Nights program runs 6-8 p.m. every Saturday until Aug. 17. Enjoy the Zoo during cooler evening temperatures with added fun, including live music from local bands, games, inflatables, food and drink specials, face painting, glitter tattoos, animal encounters, zookeeper chats, and themed evenings.

Crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, are scheduled to begin final paving operations in the intersection of Valencia Road and Kolb Road on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at 7 p.m. and complete the work by Monday, July 1, around 6 a.m. During this time, there will be limited access through the intersection, with one lane of travel maintained in each direction. As paving equipment moves through the intersection motorists could experience major delays.

Free Movie at Reid Park on Friday

Cox Movies in the Park, a Tucson summer staple since 2003, returns to the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Theater at Reid Park with a free showing of "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" on Friday, June 28. Entertainment and games begin at 6 p.m. The kid-friendly movie starts at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Food and refreshments will be available from vendors. Reid Park is located at the northeast corner of Country Club Road and 22nd Street.

Harden the Target with Ward 3 and TPD, Thursday, June 27th, 2019

As the weather heats up, many of you will be making plans to leave town to cool off. Chief Magnus and I are hosting a presentation about how to prevent property crime called Harden the Target. Target Hardening is a term used by law enforcement to describe the measures you can take to make it more difficult for burglars to target your home and property.
 

Valencia Rd - Plumer Ave to Campbell AveTree Removal

On Wednesday, June 26, 2019, the City of Tucson Transportation Department will remove two trees in the median island on Valencia Road between Plumer Avenue and Campbell Avenue that are interfering with the sight of obstruction lights at the Tucson International Airport.

The work is scheduled to begin at 4 a.m. and should be complete by 7 a.m. During the work, the eastbound and westbound median island travel lanes on Valencia Road between Plumer Avenue and Campbell Avenue will be closed to travel.

Cherry Ave - Speedway Blvd to Helen St Closure

On Friday, June 28, 2019, Granite Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, will close Cherry Avenue from Speedway Boulevard to Helen Street, including the Cherry Avenue and Helen Street intersection, overnight to mill (remove) old asphalt and repave with new asphalt.

This project is scheduled to begin Friday at 7 p.m. and be complete by 6 a.m. Saturday, June 29. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
