ICYMI: Help Name Tucson's New Indoor Football Team (Video)

The Tucson Arena soon will be the home of Tucson’s new indoor football team in the Indoor Football League. The first kickoff will be in March 2019, and the team is taking online name submissions.

The deadline is Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. The name and logo will be unveiled at a public event on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Stay tuned to NewsNet for more details.

City Recruiting Cement Mason for Transportation Department

The City of Tucson is recruiting a cement mason for the Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT). Duties include leading construction personnel in building, installing, repairing, and replacing concrete structures, block walls, pavers, bollards, fences, and rails. A cement mason also reviews workloads, assigns work, and coaches employees with specialized instructions and practices.

Veterans Court Awarded Grant

The Regional Municipalities Veterans Treatment Court, part of the Tucson City Court system, is the recipient of a $395,000 annual grant over five years from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Judge Michael Pollard recently announced the grant for the court and the creation of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (Southern Arizona Justice for Veterans) to support it.

City to Celebrate Silverlake Park Field Improvements

Ward 5 Tucson City Council Member and current Vice Mayor Richard Fimbres will be cutting the ribbon and speaking at the Silverlake Park Multipurpose Field to celebrate the completion of the new four-pole LED sports lighting project.

The $292,500 modern LED lighting system added to the field will allow youth sports organizations to practice and play close to home and into the evenings. The ceremony will take place tomorrow, Aug. 31, at 5:30 p.m. near the multipurpose field on the southwest side of the park at 2420 S. Kino Parkway.
