New City Manager Announced

Mayor Rothschild announced today that the City Council unanimously selected Cochise County Administrator Michael Ortega as our new City Manager. A final contract will be presented at the April 7 Mayor and Council Meeting, with an anticipated start date in June. Mr. Ortega's resume, as well as recordings of the Public Forum and the City Manager Appointment Advisory Committee Meeting, are available at 


Ward 5 Staff Nominated in For Women in Government Awards

I want to congratulate two members of the Ward 5 staff, Melinda Jacobs and Heileen Evans, who
were nominated for the 2015 Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission, Women in Government
Awards. The Pima County/Tucson Women's Commission recognizes the outstanding work of
women in public service at its annual Women in Government Awards Celebration. Congratulations
Melinda and Heileen for being recognized for your work and commitment to public service.


The ceremony takes place Friday, March 13 at the TCC.

2nd Saturday Household Waste Collection

The City of Tucson Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program has an option for you to clean out your space while keeping these hazardous materials out of the environment. On Saturday, March 14, 2014, the HHW Program 2nd Saturday Collection will be held at Price Service Center, 4004 S. Park Avenue from 8 a.m. to noon. Drop off of HHW is free.

Benson Highway - Irvington Road to Interstate 10 Resurfacing Project

On Monday, March 9, 2015, crews from Sunland Asphalt, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work to improve the pavement conditions on Benson Highway from Irvington Road to Interstate 10. 

Crews will begin the project by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers. Lowering the utility covers is expected to take one day to complete. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Mayor and Council voted to approve the Infill Incentive District section of the Unified Development Code on February 18, 2015.  The ordinance will become effect on March 20, 2015.
