El Tour De Tucson Traffic Alert

Downtown Tucson will host the 37th El Tour de Tucson on Saturday, November 23, 2019. El Tour de Tucson is Arizona’s largest and longest-running bicycling event.  Held annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, El Tour is a fundraising adventure ride attracting cyclists of all ages and abilities from throughout the United States and worldwide. The 100-mile start line (and finish line for all events) is located at Armory Park on Sixth Avenue at 13th Street.

Electronic Submittal of Building Plans Required for Review

The City of Tucson Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) will no longer accept paper building plan documents submitted for review. Walkthrough service will be available, but the application and documents must be submitted in advance. There will be a grace period until Friday, January 31, 2020, for applications not submitted electronically.

Two Meetings Scheduled for Roger Road Improvements

The City of Tucson is hosting two community input events to provide information and receive community input on Roger Road Pedestrian Safety and Walkability, a Proposition 407-funded project.

The first is tomorrow, Nov. 19, 5:30-7 p.m., at the Ellie Towne Flowing Wells Community Center, 1660 W. Ruthrauff Road. The second is Saturday, Nov. 23, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the northwest corner of Roger Road and Fairview Avenue.

City Recruiting Carpenters, Senior Fleet Services Technicians

The City of Tucson is hiring carpenters and senior fleet services technicians to work in its Environmental & General Services Department (EGSD). Carpenters are expected to provide skilled journey-level commercial carpentry work in the repair and modification of public facilities and related structures. Fleet services technicians perform vehicle inspections, tire and wheel repair, and change fluids, oils, and filters.

Downtown Links Pre-Construction Traffic Alert

On Monday, November 18, 2019, Downtown Links Constructors (DLC), under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, will begin pre-construction field activities, which are scheduled to continue through the end of December 2019. The traveling public will see equipment, work crews and short-term traffic control during this phase of work which includes; surface, subsurface, geotechnical, environmental and survey verifications. Chuck Ford passed away last week. He ably represented the residents of Ward 4 for two terms from 1979 to 1987.

My family and his shared meals together and I golfed with him occasionally. What was always great about speaking to him was his relentless positivity about our community. He knew we had problems, but he loved Tucson and Tucsonans.

City Recruiting Traffic Control Technician

The City of Tucson is hiring a traffic control technician to work in its Transportation Department. The position is in the Sign Shop area of the Traffic Maintenance Division and assists in the repair, removal, and installation of street signs and roadway markings. Other duties include setting up safety equipment and traffic control devices for the safety of the work crews and motorists.
