Sunshine Mile Workshops Scheduled for Next Week

Rio Nuevo is hosting public workshops that will be focused on enhancing the Sunshine Mile, which encompasses specific areas along Broadway Boulevard, between Euclid Avenue and Country Club Road. The workshops are intended to prompt discussions for creative land uses when road construction begins.

Five workshops are scheduled from July 29-31 and all will be held at the Leo Rich Theatre, 260 S. Church Ave. Each covers a specific area along Broadway Boulevard. Those planning to attend one or more of the workshops are asked to RSVP.

Back to School Bash at Oury Recreation Center is This Sunday

A Back to School Bash featuring free backpacks with school supplies takes place Sunday, July 28, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Oury Recreation Center, 600 W. St. Mary’s Road. A student must be present to receive a backpack and supplies, which are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Quantities are limited.

The event also features free haircuts and vendors with informational resources and displays. For information, call the Oury Center at (520) 791-4788.

Reid Park Zoo's Summer Safari Nights Program Continues Tomorrow

Reid Park Zoo’s annual Summer Safari Saturday Nights program runs 6-8 p.m. every Saturday until Aug. 17. Enjoy the Zoo during cooler evening temperatures with added fun, including live music from local bands, games, inflatables, food and drink specials, face painting, glitter tattoos, animal encounters, zookeeper chats, and themed evenings.

In 2015, we went through a discussion of changing the city’s charter, and voters approved new language in the following election. Back when that document was written in 1926, there weren’t a lot of departments. There was a provision for a streets commissioner and a water commissioner, and of course police and fire. Not too much more than that though.

GIS Services Now Offer ArcGIS Hub for Community Engagement

City of Tucson GIS Users now have access to ArcGIS Hub, a website building application that extends our Open Data Sites capabilities to include two-way communication between site developers and users. For those unfamiliar with Open Data Sites, check out our new Tucson Delivers page, designed using Open Data Sites to keep Tucson’s citizens updated on progress made toward Bond Initiatives. 

Free Movie at Reid Park on Friday

Cox Movies in the Park, a Tucson summer staple since 2003, returns to the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Theater at Reid Park with a free showing of "Aquaman" this Friday, July 26. Entertainment and games begin at 6 p.m.

The kid-friendly movie starts at approximately 7:45 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available from vendors. Reid Park is located at the northeast corner of Country Club Road and 22nd Street. This will be the final movie of the summer season.
