Before I begin, I need to talk a little about the election. I am grateful that you and your neighbors chose to give me another term on the city council. There is a lot of work we need to do together, and by together I mean with you as constituents and with my two new colleagues, Nikki Lee and Lane Santa Cruz as well as my longtime colleague and our next mayor, Regina Romero. Congratulations to all three for earning the support of our city.
City Services Affected By Veterans Day Holiday Next Week

The City of Tucson will observe the Veterans Day holiday on Monday, Nov. 11. Except for emergency services, all City offices will be closed.
Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday. All customers will have their collections delayed by one day. The Los Reales Landfill will be open.
100th Annual Veterans Day Parade Monday

The Tucson Veterans Day Parade takes place on Monday, Nov. 11, in Downtown Tucson. The parade begins at 11 a.m., and this year’s theme is “100 Years of Honoring Veterans.” More than 100 entrants are expected.
Participants will start assembling at 8 a.m. The parade begins downtown at West Alameda Street and Granada Avenue, heads east on Alameda Street, north on Stone Avenue, west on Franklin Street, north on Church Avenue, west on 6th Street, then south on Granada Avenue, returning to the staging point on Alameda Street.
Safety Pilot Program at Sentinel Peak Park to Begin Monday

The Mayor and Tucson City Council recently approved a six-month Sentinel Peak Park (“A” Mountain) Road Safety Pilot Program that will expand pedestrian and bicycle access while still maintaining vehicular access for the community.
Beginning on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Mondays will become vehicle-free days, meaning cars and trucks will not be allowed, and the vehicular gate will remain closed. On Tuesdays-Sundays, vehicular gate access hours will be from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
Open House to Discuss Reid Park Improvements and Zoo Master Plan

Tucson Parks and Recreation and the Tucson Zoological Society are hosting a public open house to discuss Gene C. Reid Park improvements and the Reid Park Zoo Master Plan. The open house will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Randolph Golf Complex, Copper Room, 602 S. Alvernon Way.
Design Review Meeting for South 12 Avenue Improvement Project is Next Tuesday

A public meeting on the design review for the South 12th Avenue, Irvington Road to Drexel Road, Transportation and Streetscape Improvement Project is Tuesday, Nov. 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the El Pueblo Senior Center, Multipurpose Room, 101 W. Irvington Road.
Proposed improvements include new sidewalks, streetscape and landscape improvements, adding center turn lane and striped bicycle lanes, and creating on-street parking in some locations. During the meeting, the public can meet the project team and ask questions.
2nd Saturdays Downtown Tomorrow

The next 2nd Saturdays Downtown takes place tomorrow, Nov. 9. Events during the day include Locomotive Saturday at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, Living History Day at Presidio San Agustin del Tucson, Family Brain Boost at Children's Museum Tucson, and Read to a Dog at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library.
Traffic Alert: Dusk Music Festival Downtown Road Closures

This weekend, Nov. 9-10, the Dusk Music Festival will take place at Armory Park, 222 S. 5th Ave. The festival begins at 2 p.m. each day. Two-day and single-day tickets are now on sale.
Now, through 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, Sixth Avenue from Broadway to 13th Street and 12th Street from Scott Avenue to Fifth Avenue will be closed for the safety of pedestrians and drivers. There is no official parking for the festival. Public transportation, ride-share, and taxis are recommended.
Downtown Road Closures - Dusk Music Festival

The Dusk Music Festival will take place at Armory Park in Downtown Tucson on Saturday and Sunday, November 9-10, 2019. The Sun Link Streetcar will offer free rides courtesy of Dependable Health Services and Nationwide Vision on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 a.m. on Sunday, and on Sunday from 8 a.m. until midnight. Cigna and Tucson Parks and Recreation present the Family Festival in the Park

Cigna and Tucson Parks and Recreation are proud to present the 14th annual Family Festival in the Park.There will be games, prizes, face painting, crafts, inflatables, and class demonstrations. Reid Park Zoo will have $1 admission (funds going to the Reid Park Zoo’s Conservation Fund), and the Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center will host free swimming with an inflatable obstacle course. Volunteers from Friends of the Reid Park Rose Garden will be giving tours of the garden during the event.
Mary Ann Cleveland Way Waterline Installation Work to Begin Nov. 9

Pima County, Nov. 7, 2019 - Beginning Saturday, November 9, the Pima County Project Management Office (PMO) and their contractor, The Ashton Company, will begin a waterline installation project on the south shoulder of Mary Ann Cleveland Way from just east of Empire High School to Atterbury Wash Way. The waterline work will provide utility services to the future Pima County Esmond Station Southeast Library.
Senior Olympic Festival Registration is Open

Tucson Parks and Recreation and Humana present the 36th annual Senior Olympic Festival, that will take place from January 6th - Febuary 1st, with activities happening at various location throughout the city.
Events will include volleyball, bowling, bridge, racquetball, basketball shoot, pickleball, archery, golf, tennis, horseshoes, badminton, and so much more.
